What's the most overrated can?

I have issues with the hd600 but more importantly how can you say with a stright face that the hd600 is trasparent when it smooths the sound out so much.

That's funny - for two reasons, at least.

1. All the people that complain about the 600 being raspy in the low treble.

2. The fact that the 600 can play solo (or duo) piano from top to bottom with nearly perfect pitch and tone - but the 800S, HE-500, HE-6, Arya, HEX v2, HE6se, HEK v1 cannot.

3. 600 is quite demanding on amps. Most SS can't get the octave from 30-60 Hz out of them. Maybe your amp makes them sound smoothed out. Go ahead and read 100 posts in the 600 thread starting from Jan 1 2020, and see how many agree with your smooth assessment.

Interesting. Ill take your word for it although i do think the iha 6 should have enough power to drive them considering everyone goes on about how heresy is enough to drive them.

What i find curous is how it isnt compared to the r70x or srh1840.
Now assuming you need the holy grail source chain to get it to sound as transparent as the r70x or srh1840(and I'm talking about layering and garbage in garbage out texturing and not perfect piano tonality) it makes it a even worse proposition as its basically get this specific hybrid amp or you arent powering it right.

Best I ever heard the HD-600 is on a used BH Crack w/ Speedball which cost my friend about $550. It's so good I bought a kit and extras in April, but its still sitting because I'm working huge OT every week.

I have a Ragnarok 1 ($1695), and having not heard the 600 since about 2012 on anything else, it seems well driven (piano dead on). Not compared to the BHC w/ S. It's a paradigm shift is what it is, and I really don't enjoy tube bass as a rule, nor syrupy tube treble, nor retubing costs. I'm a Class A SS w/ planar guy (look at my list, I don't like ANY closed cans, and very few dynamics). But it is what it is. HD600 is a mighty can, the 650 IMO is a defective relative.

Many people here I watch don't just have the 600 as best can under $350 (or whatever), they have it as a reference can against the best available, Nobody talks about the srh (any of them) in that tone.

Honestly I agree about the HD 650, compared to the HD 600 I like it more at first but the more I listen to the HD 650 the less I like it and the more I listen to the HD 600 the more I like it. I’ll take the HD 600, HD 660 S, or R70X over the HD 6XX/650.

It’s really the HD 650 that’s the most overrated of the Senn HD 6xx lineup imho.

Lol!!! It is the most underrated IMO
Never listened to a heavily modded stock HD800 on a setup built around it.

But listened to the Stock HD800S several times on average Hifi setups with ss amps and this was somewhere between below average and the treshold to bad.

Both HD600 and AKG 702 outperformed the HD800S for my taste.

HD600 tested on:
Musical Fidelity MX-HPA/MX-DAC
Oppo HA-1
Parasound Zdac2

Found soundstage to be small and overall unremarkable sounding considering its reputation

but they still use that awful foam

Not sure what you mean - the materials and build are impeccable...

As my friend commented upon seeing these, "If this is the Prestige Series, I'd hate to see the S**t Series."
