Maybee i am not understanding the term "drive" its always equated to volume but i dont listen loudly , 65 dbs at most meassure with an spl meter.
so i dont want volume I want (in akg 701 case) better sound. Imhaving a hard time believing that an amp will rectify the bass problem with the akgs, though I am ompletley satisfied with the 650s but if you say they will sound better than I guess we will see.

Its not all about volume. Amplifier that cannot feed enough juice to headphones, roll off in both frequency extremes faster and sound is overall flatter (not talking about tonal balance). When you get the Heed and listen it week or two, and go back to your marantz, im sure you notice difference. I would be seriously wondering if you wouldnt.

I noticed the difference between my old JVC A-X1 integrated amplifier and my currect straight-from X-Fi Elite Pro soundcard. (which isnt ideal source, but still surprisingly good) My old JVC sounds quite bad...

i had k701 for a while and i thought that k701 are very neutral/accurate which might sound pretty dry, and somewhat un-involving, in a way. it's still a good reference headphone.

i have a feeling that you might enjoy bose headphones

I remember reading that sennheiser oices thier headphones so that they will sound good out of a portable or home cdp with no amp. If thats true they seem to have done a good job. Im really interested in seeing what an amp will do for the akgs and if it helps the 650s as well sobe it.

They don't. Not the HD650.
The K701 will need a long burn-in: 200 hours minimum. Some advise a lot longer period: up to 400 hours.
I don't know how long mine were burnt-in, because I'm not the first owner and didn't keep track when I got them.
In my system their bass respons is definitely as good as the HD650. Different, but not less.

I have never seen any indication of this anywhere. The 650 is a 300 ohm can, there is no way that is meant for a portable application. Where did you read this? It just doesn't make sense.

one last thing, im not trying to be a pain but what really is the problem with CAPS I mean seriously, every forum has people on it who comment about users using capsin thier posts.

Have we all become this sensitive to everything in our daily lives that we feel the need to go on and on about caps.I could only imagine what life would be like living with these people. It seems that they freak out anytime some one may do something out of the norm or something they deam wrong. The last time I checked caps was not an offensive thing. I can read entire book ith all capital letters. Its no a major event people.

If people can be this easily distracted by a word in CAPS that it throws them into a tailspin so that the feel the need to post about caps lock then I believe some sort of reflection is necessary. Maybee everyone just wants to be the same, "mob mentality" or maybee people cant cope with change. I mean its just a sentance with CAPS for some words.

I always wonder why everyone has a MYSPACE account, I guess everyone needs to feel special and apart of some larger group to validate thier being, and subscribe to all that nonsence about whose on whose friends list and whose not and why not. I find it ridiculous that this is even an issue.

People are different. I like to type differently than most. Is that a crime, not that im aware of. If children and adults who are learning dissabled can get through life and read then you geniuses on this forum can without question read through a paragraph and not be so upset when you come to a word in CAPS. Just be happy that the sentances you dont hve to try and decifer anything like the following ( p b q d ) spacial reasoning excersise

I ca notunbe yqeo e getso utcabsl l itis ger
n rstanp wh dl map apo ock. Al is pig

let me know when you figure it out. and how long it took, thats what its like to be learning dissable and try to read, so the next time a word in CAPS annoys you think twice.

I don't see much value in keeping this thread open.

The OP is invited to start another thread if he likes, though if it goes back down the same path I'll lock that one too.
