What's the best closed headphone under $100 that fits what I need\want?

Funny, I've never seen anyone say that the M40X is uncomfortable, but if that's your concern then add a little more money and replace the ear cushions with memory cushions, plus a problem solved ... NEXT!
I said in my post that while I am fine with replacing pads, I am not fine with replacing them if over budget, so no. I was thinking of the M40x when I wrote that, and that is still what I think.
I'm a big fan of the Status Audio CB-1s. VERY comfortable with big soft pads (moreso than either AT or Sony), better cable options than either, and a pleasantly neutral/warm signature that I prefer to either the AT or Sony. Also it frequently goes on sale at massdrop or amazon for below its usual $80 asking price.
I've heard that the CB-1's, despite being better than most in comfort and sound in their price range, don't have too good of build quality.
But it is not for portable use, the M40X is the best choice.
Y'know, I regret not thinking of saying that I'd nearly never move the headphones away from my desk in my original post, because I won't need to practically ever. So portability is less of a priority than if it, say, came with a cat toy.
Y'know what, I hope there's a pair of headphones that come with a cat toy, 'cause that'd be hilarious.[\S]

The NVX are a very good stay at home headphone (a little too unwieldy for outdoor use)

Stop being miserly, memory foam earpads do not exceed $20, I'm sure you have that amount and as I've tired of saying here you will not find anything better in this price range.

$20 extra, while not sounding like that much extra, is a 20% increase to $100. Would you suggest someone with a budget of $1000 for whatever they need to go up $200? If I go up in budget $20, what's stopping me from going up $20 more? Or $40 more? Stuff like that is what I'm thinking right now. $20 is probably a meaningless increase, but to me, right here, right now, it's not.

So no, I do not have $20 extra to spend, and I will not get $20 extra to spend.

And seriously you're comparing $ 20 to $ 200? And another, you will not be throwing 20 dollars in the trash as you think and rather paying in comfort in the long run, although the earpads are even cheaper, just take a look at the link below then once again for all, stop being miserly and buy what you already found, but you're out of your league wanting to save a few bucks, you'd spend a lot more going to McDonald's than buying something that will serve you for years.

If it were me, and $100 was my absolute limit. I would only be shopping the used market to move the target to something that is a higher quality from someone who is moving on to something else. So far I've had only good experience w/ other HeadFi folks (limited as such to a couple times I did buy anything). Anyways you have a few suggestions. Good luck!

I feel you. I put limits on what I will spend for certain things and, and while they may seem unreasonable to someone else, they are MY limits. You know for yourself what you are comfortable spending so feel free to ignore some fool on Headfi accusing you of being miserly because he doesn't get it. The last time I wanted to get an 'upgrade' headphone, (instead of just something fun to spend a few bucks on), I set my limit at $100 because I just wasn't mentally in a place where I felt comfortable spending more than that on a headphone I couldn't hear first.
I understand much better now my tastes and preferences in headphones and the next time I am ready to level up I am going to spend no more than $200...and if someone comes along and tries to make me feel like crap because I don't want to spend another $50 they can bite me.

or they could just go with the NVX, have a the most comfortable headphone straight out of the box.... PLUS a whole extra set of pads! and under budget...

Yes, your limits are your limits, but I'm not talking about an absurd amount, I'm talking about 20 dollars at the most, what are dollars? People spend a lot more when they go to restaurants or when they go to the market, we are talking about something that can offer comfort for many years, and another, I have never seen anyone complaining about the comfort of the m40x, meaning he can buy them without the earpads and wait a while to buy them, but he wants to know one thing, for me, he gave me the money he wants and you too, I do not care.

Yes, I am seriously comparing $20 to $200, because statistically a $200 increase to $1000 is the same as a $20 increase to $100, 20%. Is this sort of thinking narcissistic? Yes! But is this sort of thinking wrong? To you, yes, to me, no. Despite what you think I do not believe I'd be throwing $20 in the trash, but rather that I'd be going over budget to do something I said I wouldn't do, and would not want to do. I don't give a *** if someone thinks I'm being miserly, especially so when I see them as being more miserly than me.

This'll be my last response to this M40x thingamabob.

That's fair, but I'm not much of a fan of the idea of buying used - I know that as long as you're careful and look around enough that you'd get a mighty fine product for cheaper 99% of the time, but I'd vastly prefer to buy new anytime I can.

I mean, clearly his budget is tight, and it's all about helping him in the end.

@AnyOtherRay and others who might be interested: This is very irrelevant, but just in case it is possible to stretch your budget, the Massdrop x Sennheiser 6XX, just dropped from $500 down to $200. According to main big names in tech and audio (inclduing LinusTechTips and others), they're amazing headphones, especially for the price. They're open-back, and out of the budget though. Again, I understand your budget is tight as can be, but, if you're open to waiting until you can expand your budget, it might be worth it... Just a thought, but I respect your budget and headphone requirements. Just such a good deal that it was worth mentioning.

You can find them here, if you have any interest. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx

For headphones, and with your budget (which is great if your not super serious about getting the best of the best sound), you can find some great headphones for under $100. I'll keep looking, but at this point we've covered the pretty obvious and well known headphones. It's just about getting other people on here who know some other less known headphones.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Bosshifi B8 or the Isk HD9000 (And the rebranded ones as well). You can get the B8s for $80 off Amazon or $60 from Aliexpress. You can get the MDH9000 rebrands for $22 (Akai 50x, but you need $9 replacement pads), $45 (LyxPro Has30) or get the actual MDH9000 for $60 on Aliexpress.

Not interested, even if I decide 'yeah, I'll double my budget', I don't want an open pair. Headphones are meant to allow you to listen to things without others hearing, if I wanted people to know what I was listening to I'd be here asking for speakers.

The B8's look interesting, based on only reading the amazon reviews because I don't feel like goggling, although I'm not much a fan of the look of wood. Not interested at the MDH9000/rebrands though.
