Browsing news sites tonight, I came across this fascinating story:

Dallas Food - What's Noka Worth? (Part 1)

Noka chocolate is the most expensive in the world. Their prices range from $300 a pound to over $2,000 per pound. The article offers the following price comparison:

Quote:

To make some "apples to oranges" comparisons, Noka chocolates cost more than:

Foie gras -- $50 per pound
Domestic sturgeon caviar -- $275 per pound
American Wagyu and Japanese Kobe beef -- $100 to $300 per pound
Sterling silver -- $170 per pound
Marijuana in El Paso -- $350 per pound
A fat stack of dollar bills -- $454 per pound

But is Noka chocolate really worth it? Where does their chocolate come from? Are they just repackaging a cheaper chocolate and marking it up?

This is a great example of investigative journalism and a good read, too.

It's all about the quality and consistency of the cocoa butter...

But I'm sure that can come a little cheaper...

Nice find. For those who are going to read it, skip the rest of this post until you have. For everyone else...

It's a scam! They don't make any chocolate, they just re mold it and lie about that fact.

I work for Australia's only real chocolate maker btw.

I use lots of Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa. I love chocolate...and natural peanut butter...together.

really? I don't care for the standard hershey bar. it tastes too much like sour milk.

the thing of it is, when milk chocolate was developed in europe, they used dry milk on purpose.

hershey, being in PA, just used fresh milk - but it goes sour during the process.
