I bought my Shure SE530 eraphones two years ago on ebay. There is no warranty.

The problem is that the wire of the right earphone is starting to break off. I can already see the inner wires. What should I do to fix it myself? It's going to break off sooner or later.

if you got some budget i would go custom reshell...
i also saw something about adding additional drivers while doing it...
but I wonder, if they are actually using drivers you send em... I mean what if they just use their own and say used yours..

Never mind my last post.. That was stupid.

I may have found someone who can reshell or recable them. I think reshelling is a better and safer option since I've heard the headphones can be ruined by recabling.

Now about reshelling. What kind of shells do you recommend? I'm looking for something durable and aesthetically pleasing. I don't want this to happen again... I've seen some cables that have pieces of metal connecting the cables to the headphones.

Also, could anyone explain to me what are drivers? How would I benefit from having them install more drivers to my headphones?

Out of warranty repair for the 530's costs approximately $155 from Shure. They don't need a receipt or proof of purchase, they just need the $155. You send them your sad 530's and they send you a brand new pair in a brand new retail box (with all new accessories). Two years later, you do it again. This has been my experience and I am not complaining. My second pair is now fragging down near the "Y" connection. The wire gets dry and stiff and it fails. I have babied these things to no avail. YMMV.

And that's why Shure saw the error in their ways, and introduced the SE535.
That said, hot glue. I don't think you can slide any heatshrink up there (and if you do, it would never shrink that much).

That sounds like a pretty good deal considering some people charge almost that much for fixing them. Would they exchange the 530s for 535s?

People who have tried recently say no, they do not replace 530's with 535's. I have a hunch at some point they may, or maybe at some point they will withdraw "repairs" for the 530's. I hope not. Either way, I was sad that my cables failed shortly after the warranty ended. But $155 for brand new phones seemed reasonable to me.

P.S. BTW, your phones look much worse than mine did when I sent them back.....

Keep in mind, that you could get a reshell from Unique Melody for about that much. Unique Melody probably makes the best shells for customs. At that point, you would have a detachable cable.

I contacted UM. Here is their offer:

"1,reshell se530 with UM detached cable is usd224(with fedex shipping back);
2,reshell se530 with adding three drivers into six drivers custom is usd478(with shipping back)."

Shure told me it will cost me £304.85p for the SE535 using their Service Exchange thing...

That's pretty crazy.

I would wait until a lot more wire is exposed then go out at night strangling old people.
