I thought this would be kinda neat. My first pair came with a 1980s walkman copy i think it was an audiovox or some cheap brand from the 80s. They were blue foam and they fit over the ears with a metal band.

I went to e-bay to see if i could find a pair and i found some cool old cans. I searched retro headphones, and vintage headphones. Man some of these old cans are COOL! to band i have no idea how they sound or if they even work. There is one set from the 1940s that uses a phone receiver ear piece and i can remember using a phone like that from the 70s. Was neat to check out.

Something like this:

only they looked even cheaper. Came with a walkman.

Those Pioneers look a lot like a >30 years old Philips pair of headphones I have lying around here. I think they were my fathers first headphones. Only the cups are grey.

First stereo headphones (yes, mono were available then, too) I ever bought to listen to music were Koss Pro4aa's around 1969 when I was a junior in high school. Closed cans with hard avacado green shells (boom mike attachment nut on one side), short tightly coiled cord, and gel filled ear pads I thought were truely advanced. Of course, I really lusted for the electrostatic Koss ESP6s . . .

The first headphones I ever owned had a small box with left & right faders built into the cord to adjust the volume and looked alot like the Pioneer SE-50's but I don't remember the brand. This was around 1970.

The first headphones I owned that were a revelation were the Sennheiser HD414's, 1974.

My first headphones were some kind of cheap sony brand. Something like the V200? Anyway, they sucked.
My first headphones worth mentioning was the Beyer DT250-80.

Bingo. Same here.

I guess the big question is, what was your first aftermarket can ever? The Koss K-1 looks so cool...but I think I got Sony MDR-150s as my first non-factory can. Ugh. Into the trash it went when I got my MS-1 decades later - I don't know how I stood it.

i used to own a pair like those, but they had yellow pads. and had a very thin piece of metal as the headband.

Separated 12 years but my first phones that I care to remember were also Koss, model HV1LC ... with magnets probably larger than that of dynaudio tweeters. Still have it here (left side still working) but now they're wireless phones ... ever since I use their coiled cord for phones extension cable. Incredible 2.3 ohm resistance for a mere 2-3 meter run.
