what to listen to when very sad?

Gary Jules - Mad World

That's about the saddest song I know, even though it kind of reaches a state of almost being too pathetic.

But I liked it especially at the end of the Donnie Darko movie.

"Empty Cans" by the Streets. It's really a two part song - the first half, he's angry and bitter, the second half- the lyrics are very uplifting. I believe you will finish the song on a positive note, if that is what you are after - give it a try.

These are 3 songs I've been into lately that strike me as having an anti-sadness disposition to them.

John Lennon - Oh Yoko!
Oingo Boingo - Stay
Joy Division - Love will tear us apart

Music can push or pull your emotions in many directions.

I'm holding off until the OP checks back on his/her thread.

happy music most likely. i assume most people on this forum take music very seriously, and listening to sad music would only depress him more. check out the latest devin townsend album "synchestra" if you are into rock/metal at all.

I used to listen to Yes' - And You And I when I got depressed. Just do not listen to Metallica's - Fade To Black.

Thank God, I'm not the only one who felt depressingly sombre whilst listening to that track; if you want to just end it all, this is the track to listen to.

Personally I like listening to something like Mogwai's "Rock Action" album, in particular the track "Take Me Somewhere Nice".

why would you want elliott smith? 50% of his songs are about suicide.

i would suggest kanye west or whatever hip hop you might like.

listening to kanye bitch about things usually takes my mind off of what is making me sad, plus the beats get me movin'.

When I was younger and more prone to sadness I would listen to "Faith" by the Cure - the live version that goes on for 11 minutes. Then I'd listen to it again.

I don't think I get sad like that anymore.

Still a great song though.
