Hey guys!
I'm the happy winner of the AK 120 at CanJam and I'm conflicted. I listened to the AK100 and thought it sounded great and the more I read about the 120 the more awesome it sounds. Here's the problem, I was really wanting to upgrade my headphones. I currently have a heavily modded pair of Grado SR225i which I really do like, but I've been wanting to move up to the HE-500. After looking up more information so I could list it for sale I saw just how cool this thing is. Dual dacs, plays DSD (which I don't currently have), can be used as a USB dac, etc. So, question is, should I sell the AK120 and upgrade my phones to the HE-500 and have money left over for amp or some other random thing, or keep the AK120 and stick with my Grado's?
More info: I like the Grado's, but HE-500 is a definite improvement. I can't afford to buy the HE-500 in the foreseeable future, and in my line of work (missionary) may never be able to justify paying the $700 for them. Before winning the AK120 I was content with sticking with my current set-up. I currently use an iPod 5.5 for portable use and do have some 24/96 music that I can't put on it, so the AK120 would give me something I don't currently have.
I know I need to make up my own mind, but I would appreciate some opinions and ideas that help me look at this more objectively, you know, removed from the emotion of holding a brand new audio toy in my hands but not being able to open it so I can sell it.
Thanks,
Matt
