What Song Defines You?

Too Much Time On My Hands by Styx was the song of my life for a long time.
Sittin' on this bar stool
Talkin' like a damn fool ..................

Since I quit drinking, the song still fits but not as well.

Maybe now it would be Sunset Strip by Courtney Love.

I came here froma a dirty dark street
There was no one there to protect me
To make the nightmares go away
It has to sparkle
It has to shine.

Look at me for the very last time
I've climbed so high I've got no place left to climb
That I know no tomorrow

Rock star
Pop star
Everybody dies
And all tomorrows parties
They have happened tonight
And I know I won't see tomorrow

Spent the last year
Rocky Mountain Way
Couldn't get much higher
Out to pasture
Think it's safe to say
Time to open fire

And we don't need the ladies
Crying 'cuz the storie's sad
'Cuz the Rocky Mountain Way
Is better than the way we had

Well he's tellin' us this
And he's tellin' us that
Changes it every day
Say's it doesn't matter
Bases are loaded and Casey's at bat
Playin' it play by play
Time to change the batter

And we don't need the ladies
Crying 'cuz the storie's sad, uh huh
Rocky Moutain Way
Is better than the way we had
Hey, hey, hey, hey

-

Closest fit I could find.

I'd have to say... Aikawa Nanase "Crying."

I'm moody and sad a lot, this song seems to fit me, in part at least.

"In my young adult life it was anything "real" and "earnest" like the mood that hit MTV-Unplugged. cmon - acoustic guitar gets the girls!"

Heh, you've *got* to listen to The Magnetic Fields' "Acoustic Guitar":

Acoustic guitar
I'm gonna make you a star
Get your picture all over the world

Acoustic guitar
You can have your own car
Just bring me back my girl

...

She always loved the sound of your strum
It made her think maybe I wasn't so dumb
You understand where she's coming from
Which I obviously don't, or she wouldn't be gone

Classic song

Time will come when you feel down
Everything you had is gone
and whatever you had thought you'd really need
is meaningless you turned around
caught by light a distant sound
like a creature that is drawn into the flame

Turn the page and face another day
on that stage you're supposed to stay
Turn the page and fill it up with life
I won't sigh when time will turn the page
You're alone during the stay
Company can share your way
but they'll never ever make it really close
to the core to the beyond
What's in store on from this point
will surprisingly be scaring joyful pain

Turn the page and face another day
Take your time 'cause something'
Turn the page and fill it up with life
And don't sigh when time will turn the page

On these tracks we walk we've got a choice
Be aware I'll be your voice...

Time will come you're down
everything you had is gone
And whatever you had thought you'd really need
is meaningless you turn around
to a light a distant sound
like a creature that is drawn into the flame

Turn the page and face another day
on that stage you're supposed to stay
Turn the page and fill it up with life
I won't sigh when time will turn the page

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn't ask)

Oh, Leporello, you old romantic, you!

While we are on the smiths, here's one that many of us can relate to at times!

---------------------
I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now

I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now

Husker Du - "Celebrated Summer"

Not so much about any one summer that was more celebrated than any other, but just the way the song evokes longing for past better days. Though at this point in my life, I wouldn't change a thing because I have a wonderful family, up until a few years ago I always seemed to live in the past. This one really seems to bring that out.

"Do you remember when the first snowfall fell?
Was that your celebrated summer?"

Note.. "Husker Du" = "Do you Remember?"

Garth Brooks - The Change

One hand
Reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
They say what good have you done
By saving just this one
It’s like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm.

(chorus)
And I hear them saying you’ll never change things and no matter
What you do it’s still the same thing
But it’s not the world that I am changing I do this so this
World will know that it will not change me.

This heart
Still believes
The love and mercy still exist.
While all the hatred rage and so many say
That love is all but pointless in madness such as this
It’s like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss.

*chorus*
As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone.

*chorus*
What I do is so
This world will know
That it will not change me

Oh yeah and the start of this one too

Peter Cetera - Dip Your Wings

If you see me coming up an open road
With an empty glass and a single rose
Take a turn towards the shifting light
There you’ll see my shadow lost in the night

Well, I've always claimed Calexico's "Close Behind" is my theme song. Not because it really says anything about me, but because it's a theme song just waiting to happen, and hey, I needed one...

And a friend wrote a song about me in high school that basically went something like "he didn't do his homework once this year". But you probably haven't heard it and I don't really have any homework now. Otherwise it'd have to be that.

Not counting those, I'd say the song that best reflects my personality and perception of the world would be "The Boy in the Bubble" by Paul Simon. These are the days of miracle and wonder, so don't cry baby, don't cry.
