What song do you most identify with?

I am not sure what song I most identify with, but number two is probably Buckets of Rain from Blood on the Tracks. My favorite verse is the last one:

Life is sad
Life is a bust
All ya can do is do what you must.
You do what you must do and ya do it well...

"nothingman" pearl jam
caught a bolt of lightning
cursed the day he let it go...

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I’ll say it clear,
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain.

I’ve lived a life that’s full.
I’ve traveled each and ev’ry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

The overall theme, or concept of “Bitches 2” by ICE-T; a lot of things have gone right for me, and I consider myself pretty lucky, but one thing that will befuddle me until the day I die is how someone can swear up, and down that they are your friend, and turn around and stab you in the back. I am not perfect by any means, but this is something I could never do!

This is what I call 'emotive' lyrics

'The Dead Flag Blues'
From the album "F# A# (Infinity)"
-----------------

The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
And a dark wind blows
The government is corrupt
And we're on so many drugs
With the radio on and the curtains drawn

We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
And the machine is bleeding to death

The sun has fallen down
And the billboards are all leering
And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles

It went like this

The buildings tumbled in on themselves
Mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble and pulled out their hair

The skyline was beautiful on fire
All twisted metal stretching upwards
Everything washed in a thin orange haze

I said, "Kiss me, you're beautiful..
These are truly the last days"

You grabbed my hand and we fell into it
Like a daydream or a fever

We woke up one morning and fell a little further down
For sure it's the valley of death

I open up my wallet
And it's full of blood

He said "This is the real world, Buddy
Toughen up your ass or it'll break"
I said "I'm not your buddy, Buddy
and your real world is a fake"
...
But whatever needs to happen
let it happen, let it be
through all I am protected
grace is effected over me

let it happen - the waterboys (that's mike scott in my avatar)

I guess I just wasn’t made for these times, by the Beach Boys / Brian Wilson

I keep looking for a place to fit
Where I can speak my mind
I’ve been trying hard to find the people
That I won’t leave behind

They say I got brains
But they ain’t doing me no good
I wish they could

Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin’ for myself
But what goes wrong

Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(can’t find nothin’ I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad
(can’t find nothin’ I can put my heart and soul into)

I guess I just wasn’t made for these times

Every time I get the inspiration
To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found

Where can I turn when my fair weather friends cop out
What’s it all about

Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin’ for myself
But what goes wrong

Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(can’t find nothin’ I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad
(can’t find nothin’ I can put my heart and soul into)

I guess I just wasn’t made for these times
I guess I just wasn’t made for these times
I guess I just wasn’t made for these times
I guess I just wasn’t made for these times
I guess I just wasn’t made for these times
I guess I just wasn’t made for these times

Glory Days - Pulp.

Come and play the tunes of glory
Raise your voice in celebration
Of the hours that we have wasted
In the cafe in the station

And learn the meaning of existence
In fortnightly instalments
Come and share this golden age with me
In my single room apartment

And if it all amounts to nothing, it doesn't matter
These are still our glory days

Oh my face is unappealing (well, not THAT line, of course!)
And my thoughts are unoriginal
I did experiments with substances
But all they did was make me ill

And I used to do the I Ching
But then I had to feed the meter*
Now I can't see into the future
But at least I can use the heater

Oh it doesn't get much better than this
'Cos this is how we live our glory days

Oh and I could be a genius
If I just put my mind to it
And I - I could do anything
If only I could get round to it
Oh we were brought up on the space race
Now they expect you to clean toilets
When you've seen how big the world is
How can you make do with this

If you want me I'll be sleeping in
Sleeping in throughout these glory days

These glory days can take their toll
So catch me now before I turn to gold
Oh yeah we'd love to hear your story
Just as long as it tells us where we are
And where we are is where we're meant to be
Oh come on make it up yourself
You don't need anybody else
And I promise I won't sell
These days to anybody else in the world
But you
No-one but you
No-one but you
No-one but you
No-one but you

* - note for Americans - in the UK, some people still pay for electricity by putting coins into a box attached to their meter, this is known as 'feeding the meter'.

Even tho' I know it's only
Me and my dreams
That drive me so let me go please
Let me go onto tomorrow
One day at a time
Now I know the only foe is time

22,000 days, 22,000 days it's not alot,
It's all you got 22,000 days
22,000 nights, 22,000 nights, it's all you know
So start the show and this time
Feel the flow and get it right

Your everlasting summer
You can see it fading fast
So you grab a piece of something
That you think is gonna last
You wouldn't know a diamond
If you held it in your hand
The things you think are precious
I can't understand

Are you reelin' in the years
Stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears
Have you had enough of mine

When I was a kid it was sugar and spice - "Sing" by the Carpenters.

When I was a tween it was hyperspaz time - "Dare to be stupid" by Weird Al.

In my teens it was all about the angst - probably "Please Let me get what I want" by the Smiths and "Never let me down" by Depeche Mode.

In my young adult life it was anything "real" and "earnest" like the mood that hit MTV-Unplugged. cmon - acoustic guitar gets the girls!

Now? Hmm. Good question. "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton? Who knows.
