I have a pair of closed darths coming in sometime in april

from the research i've done, comparable (in mentionable aspects) phones would be the JVC DX1000, Denon D2000 and HFI-780s

While I haven't heard the Darth Beyers and I am looking forward to one day owning a pair, from the reading I've done and listening to my new PROline 2500's I think they might be comparable to the Darth Beyers.

The only place where the PROline 2500's might be deficient would be in the mid range department. However, I am not real sure because my 2500's are not burnt in and I have never heard the Darth Beyers. The HFI-780's have also received a lot of praise and with some recabling they are said to compare to the Edition 9's which is crazy!

How do Darth Beyers complement Grados? My musical moods tend to vary, and while I sometimes want the clean and detailed middle, I am at other times a basshead looking for nothing but drowning myself in rumble ... preferrably a controlled rumble, though. I'm not overly fond of loose stuff.

I totally understand the bolded parts.

Exactly the reason why I alternate between my ES7 and my Darths. There are just times where you want your head to rumble like there's no tomorrow. Darths accomplish that for ME.

But be warned though, they are NOT a jack of all trades. They do really well at live blues and acoustic concerts. Think BB King Live and Eric Clapton.
They are awesome for Dance and Club music. Just friggin' awesome.

Especially cheesy 80s and 90s dance and pop music. Think Modern Talking, Vanilla Ice and Micheal Jackson.

Trance and Progressive house music are also nice with Darths. Armin Van Buuren, Kyau & Albert as well as Gareth Emery comes to mind.

Chill out and jazz ain't too bad too. Buddha Bar, Cafe Del Mar and Diana Krall.
BUT on SOME songs, when the bass is already very boomy and muddy, it can and will be hell while listening with the Darths.

When I'm really stressed, Darths + 80s/90s Dance Music is my cure. 'Nuff said.

Just don't expect it to be the jack of all trades that's all.

Just MY 2 cents.
