Well you order the Darths from Heaphile.com & they are modded DT770/80's

As for the comparison I will let the more qualified people answer. I too am interested to hear the opinions.

Hello,

As a Darth owner, I would suggest you to start from Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 80ohm version. Those headphones has a sound signature which not everyone likes. Lot's of bass which intrude into the mids and the high can get tiresome.

With all these properties I still really enjoyed those cans and they sounded excellent to me. I am a basshead. The Darth's are another headphones, they use the 770's but they are recabled and woodyfied. Some tweaks are applied inside which I am not aware of and they sound much better: the mids are more forward (in closed version) with even more and tighter bass and the highs are sparkling but not tiresome. I have tried a quite a few headphones and they are not like others.

The Darth Beyers use the DT770 Pros which are 80 ohms and should stil be available. The new DT770s can be turned into Luke Skybeyers but the only two people on here that have ordered them (and admitted it), Skylab and Towert7, preferred the Darth Beyers. As does Larry himself.

Go to Headphile, it's to the direct right ---> or click here: Headphile
Carry on an email chat with Larry; he's the owner.
Paypal Larry the $$$
Wait approximately 6 to 8 week (or whatever the current wait time)
Receive pictures 1 week prior to shipment
Receive Darth's allow at least 100hrs burn-in
Enjoy!

And the limited, special "deep-cup" Darths have slightly better highs, and slightly lower lows -- just a little better SQ all around -- but (always a "but") you have to pay much more for them, than the regular Darths.
Deep-cup Darths cannot be custom-ordered like regular Darths -- they can only be found, infrequently, on the "deals" page at Headphile. And are usually snapped-up immediately, no matter the price, it seems.
Or, even more rarely, used ones here at the Head-Fi sale forum.

I think the wait time is now (and has been for months) up to 8 to 12 weeks -- lots of peeps ordering Darths!
And, yes, the burn-in is important -- never judge a Darth out-of-the-box!

^^^Right; wait time can fluctuate to the 12 week mark depending on demand...

Of the headphones that I've tried, only a well amplified HD 650 (warm) can come close to the mid-range and bass of the Darth's, but that doesn't tell the whole story. On top of that the Darth's have the highs covered : read : they will not bore you to death like the 650s tend to do. You would have to listen to the two side-by-side to draw your own conclusions. A STAX Omega II with the lines facing to the rear (parallel) will give you even more accurate bass at the expense of the visceral or speaker on head type affect.

You forgot: then start collecting pictures from the Darth thread as you plan for your second pair.

See my post on the new ultrasone HIF-780's.
They come *mighty* close bass-wise, and SQ-wise, to my Darth Beyers -- closer than any of my other cans, perhaps.
Or, maybe I just got an exceptional pair?
Keepers, anyway. Just like Darths are keepers.
Denon D2000 are good, too.
