Lifeforce - Patrick Stewart. British Sci-Fi. It's a little cheesy but the zombies make up for it. Music is a throwback to the 1980s (Henry Mancini), a little discordant, not well placed and too loud in places.

I have the exact opposite opinion on the movie. I personally thought it was great. The casting was perfect and most of the jokes were funny, with a couple borderline-hilarious moments. Nothing classic, but a very enjoyable movie. The Rock almost steals the movie because of the fact that he played his character perfectly.

I have to agree that the Rock was prolly the only reason I didn't leave the theater. Vince Vaughn was sooo annoying, that black thing was funny the first 2 times but he kept going on and on and on and that was very annoying.

Scarface - Al Pacino. I still find the characters aggravating to this day. Canned Disco music didn't help. Reminds me of the Rocky movies. But at least the music doesn't blast to where you have to turn it down. When was the last time you saw a fully lighted disco / dance floor? So, where did the 7 dollars and 65 cents come from?

"Ray"

I've been putting off seeing this because even though I grew up with his music and knew most of the words to all the songs in the movie, I was never very interested in Ray Charles. That's changed now. The movie would have been great even if it wasn't about Ray, but having seen it, I'm now intrigued by his life and his music. Will be looking for a Ray Charles CD or two in the few days.

I also got a chance to see Be Cool this weekend and didn't think it was all that bad. I enjoyed Get Shorty better but did find Be Cool to be also pretty funny. As mentioned earlier Vince Vaughn's gets tiresome after awhile but The Rock was just hilarious.

I know few will believe it, but I just finished seeing for the first time the complete, uncut, uninterrupted Forrest Gump. I've always just caught snippets and portions on televsion.

This is one of the few movie soundtracks which I would buy. The music was great, the audio was superb. And the movie wasn't bad at all.

Frequency - Dennis Quaid. Good musical score. 3 commentaries (actor, director, musical director) with a separate subtitle commentary. Sci-Fi / Sci-Fact cop drama where, because of the Borealis, contact is made between a father and son 30 years apart. Very Enjoyable.

Watched Heat last night. IMHO this is one of the best crime dramas out there. While its theme is a very common one, that cops and crooks are more similar to each other than they are to average people, it is played out as a classical tragedy of big characters struggling against their own impending fates. This classical atmosphere is enhanced by a somewhat stark visual style that continually focuses on dual images of the chaos of the ocean and the alienation of the big city. (Making its visual style somewhat similar with most other Michael Mann films.)

The acting is excellent with great performances by both Al Pacino (as a detective whose personal life is slowly being erroded by his obsession with his job) and Robert de Niro (as a criminal mastermind struggling between his need to find a happy, love filled life and the thrill of committing robbery.) The supporting cast, which includes Val Kilmer and John Voigt, put in respectable performances as well.

The plot line would be excellent had we not already seen it many times before. While there are some elements that are fairly original (particularly an ending that adds to the tragic grandeur of the film) the majority of it plays out as a standard intelligent crime drama full of beautifully choreographed violence and cunning schemes. The increased emphasis on the lives of individual characters (along with an amazingly accurate, according to a friend of mine on a SWAT team, street fire-fight sequence) makes this film something special.

Vampire Effect - Hong Kong martial arts film. Light hearted love story for teenagers. Very entertaining, especially if you love looking at beautiful asian women. Music is not spectaular.

Taking Lives - Angelina Jolie. Psychological thriller: psycho takes over victim's identities. The obligatory Angelina Jolie nude scene. Music just okay. Very unexpected ending.

Pursued - Christian Slater. Psycho headhunter goes to any length to sign new clients. Music unremarkable. If you love watching characters you just love to hate, this movie is for you.

Earthsea - 3 hrs. A composite of Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea trilogy.

I really have some problems with this movie. Having loved the books and waiting over 10 years to see it come to the big screen - I feel it is a let down.

Spoiler alert:

Why wasn't the Gebbeth a shadowy figure like in the books and why didn't Ged go into death to defeat the Gebbeth? Man, I really felt cheated. There seems to be parts that I just do not remember. Did the books have Ged at 10 years old and then he progressed 7 years searching for the Gebbeth? How long was his training at Roke?

If anyone else has read the books and seen the movie, could you please post your review of this movie?

(Just because it is epic and lush).

Rob Roy - Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange. 1700's Scottish Epic. Filmed entirely in Scotland. Excellent musical score with Scottish instruments, ballads and folk songs. DTS sound. Highly recommended.

Million Dollar Hotel - Mel Gibson, Milla Jovovich, Kimmy Smits. Great U2 song, "Ground Beneath Her Feet", along with "The First Time," and one or two by Bono. In other words, Great Music.

Another review.

I was ROTFLMAO. I think that this is America's answer to all foreign films. It includes lunatics at a hotel, religion, philosophy, music, love, very fast jokes, sight gags, artisitic imagery (mocking foreign films)... One of Mel Gibson's funnier roles. The guy who played the 5th Beetle was hilarious! (Played by Peter Stormare). I wanted to see "A Hard Day's Night" right after it.

For some reason I think it will appeal to a lot of the crazies at Head-Fi, intellectuals and whackos alike. You normal people should pass.

Still laughing after the movie finished.

ROBOTS: A light-hearted romp, nothing spectacular, but about a C+ pic...go when the kids aren't there, and you will miss half the fun...

LOTSA names in this, voicing a zany assemblage....

Don't pay full price.
