Wow, memory melt-down. Let's give it a shot:

Koss 4/AA (or something)
Senn HD-414
Sony EX70
Grado SR-60
Koss SportaPro
Koss PortaPro
Sony EX888
Ety ER-4P
Senn HD-600
Grado SR-325
Koss KCS35

This is more or less in order of acquisition and covers a period from about 1972 to the present.

cool. i used my Yamaha HP-1 so long they were taped together.

i think i stood up with my foot on the cable several times. the cord ripped right out of the drivers. i had to solder it back on. the headband was torn completely off the right side. i just taped it back on. the driver housings broke from the headband and i glued them back together. i remember my friends would not even put them on because they looked so bad.

i compared the HP-1(what was left of them) to my Senn 580s on an MG Head tube amp over a year ago. the HP-1 sounded very flat and un-dynamic. very dry sound. i think a lot of 1970s phones sounded like that. the only way to get them to sound good was to EQ the hell out of them. the HP-1 were, i believe, 150 ohm.

My very first headphones were those that came with my first (Philips) tape recorder: something like a vintage stethoscope with curved plastic tubes which lead the sound from a central transducer to the ears – they sounded awfully.

Then:

Some closed Pioneer cans
Sennheiser HD 414
Micro Seiki electrostatics
Wharfedale (isodynamics)
Yamaha HP-1/HP-2 or -3 (orthodynamics)
Peerless (orthodynamics, shape similar to Jecklin Float)
Beyerdynamic DT 990
Beyerdynamic DT 911
Stax Lambda Pro + SRM-717 predecessor (SS)
lots of small (Sony) walkman earphones
Grado SR 80
Sennheiser HD 580
Stax Gamma Pro
Stax SRM-Xh

Stax Sigma Pro
own electrostatics design made of «airplane» plywood with Stax Sigma/Lambda Pro driver elements
Stax SRM-T01
Koss Portapro
Etymotic ER-4S
own electrostatics design made of «airplane» plywood with Stax Lambda Signature Pro driver elements
Sennheiser HD 600
Sony MDR-F1
Musical Fidelity X-Cans

Since «Head-Fi»:

Corda Headamp-1
Porta Corda
Brocksieper Earmax Pro
Fixup 50 ohms replacement cable; ER-4S --> ER-4X
own HD 600 cable design made of 0.028 mm magnet wires
lots of Tubes for the EMP
AKG K 501
(instant measure: velvet anti-reflexion coating inside the earpads)
Corda «Blue» and Porta Corda mods by KurtW (devices on the way back to me)
Grado SR-325 (just auctioned at eBay for $193, not yet arrived)

This list surely is incomplete, and the historical order may occasionally be incorrect (who cares...).

Sony MDR-G72 which I gave to brother after...

Sony MDR-E888LP which I lost on the slopes of Stowe so I got...

Sony MDR-E888LP which I still have. Then I found

HEADWIZE after which I bought...

Grado RS-2. Liked it but then I needed more, which was when

Alessandro-Grado Music Series Pro came. Sold for needed cash to tanfenton who sold them to JMT and they're in his list. I replaced these with a...

Sony MDR-V6 which I lost on a busride home. Then I got my...

Sennheiser HD600 which became

SMURFED. But I couldn't resist the allure of a...

Grado HP-1000 HP2 that I saw on Ebay.

My Etymotic ER-4S came while I had the MSP to use on the bus and in planes.

And here I am! Amp history --

Pre-Headwize

Sony MDR 570s or something like that.
some small Aiwa open air phones that actually sounded somewhat decent
Sennheiser HD545 - nice, but without an amp they were terribly lacking in the bass department. I think I sold them within a week of getting them (got them for cheap off of ebay though)
Sennheiser HD565 - Bought this relatively soon after the 545's were sold (sometime in 1999 as far as I can tell). verrrry similar to the 545, but with more bass and overall refinement. They're my main listening headphone to this day.

Post-Headwize
Beyer DT231 - Nice little headphone. A little power-hungry but with a surprisingly refined sound for the price. Good for computer or portable use - they get pulled out for main rig listening every now and then.
Etymotic ER-6 - I'd had my eyes on etymotics for a while, but they were waaay out of my price range, until this little baby came along.
Creek OBH-11 - At last I heard my Sennheisers with decent amplification (which is why they're still my main listening phones). The Creek prevented me from doing something rash like spending over $350 on W100s or something similar.

I'd like to eventually get myself a good pair of closed phones that won't break the bank. Oh, and of course, a better amp eventually.

I'll try and remember them in the order I acquired them, but things are a bit hazy.
1970-71..........A pair of XAM headphones which were knock-offs of Koss Pro4A......I bought them at a store called EJ Korvettes. XAM was the house brand electronics.
1985.......Koss Porta Pro to go along with my Technics SL-XP7 portable CDP, which, at the time was billed as the "world's smallest CD player."
1991........Sony MDR-V6
1998.......AKG K340. Picked them up used from the AudioReview classifieds. I was amazed and quite satisfied, until, one day while I was minding my own business, I stumbled upon HeadWize. Then the fun began........in the following (approximate) order:

Grado SR-80
Sennheiser HD-545
Grado SR-325
Allesandro/Grado Music Series Pro
Sennheiser HD-600
Grado RS-1 w/wooden box
Sony CD-3000
Sony CD-1700
Grado HP-1
Grado SR-100
Koss KSC-35
AKG K501
Sony MDR-E888LP (need another pair......just eaten by dog!)
Etymotic ER4S
Etymotic ER4P
Etymotic ER6
Sennheiser MX500
Stax SRM001 MK2
Stax SR5
Stax SR34
Grado SR-60
Grado SR-200
Radio Shack earbuds.
Don't know model #, but I just picked them up today for $19.99. Nice sound, but a bit bass shy in comparison to the MX-500s.

Other than the Grado SR-80 and the Senn HD-545 which are currently in the possession of my two oldest sons, I haven't parted with any of these..........and I don't plan to. Some (ETYs), however, have been replaced because of dog destruction.
Well, there you have the sordid tale.

Pre Head-Fi:
  1. ...lots of small, crappy come-with-a-walkman headphones. Those things just don't last.
  2. Labtec something-or-others
  3. AKG K401 (died)

Post Head-Fi:
  1. Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (my favourite)
  2. EarmaxPro amp
  3. ATH W100
  4. Next headphone? something like the DT770 but with more clarity and detail in the upper registers
