when i first joined the forum, i thought i would never spend more than $300 for a set of headphones(had ms2s in mind) but things have changed a bit..

simply, what is your (max)budget when it comes to buying a set of headphones.. that is, considering your financial status at the moment...

me, went down to $200

When I started head-fi, I thought $1,500 was a high amount to spend on a headphone rig (source, amp, cables, headphone). I did bump it up to about $3,000. I was working as a lawyer at the time, and was making very good money, so figured I could spend about that much on a good rig.

I try to contain myself and be a responcible spender.... mainly because i pay my own tuition and my education is more valuable than headphones (and it means i will have more money to buy more and better headphones in the future)

i actually look at it this way. i usually spent about 60 to 80 dollar every month for "music stuff" such as cds and headphone. i think i've been buying headphone way too often even before coming here(2 to 3 a year).

Well, $150 per headphone is about max for me. That said, I hang out in the for sale forum to minimize my cost.

HD-280s new $100
KCS-55 new $15
PX-200 used $35
Super.Fi 3s used $85
KCS-75 new $10
SR-80 used $75, I think
ER-6 was a gift.

Looks like $100 per headphone is my personal limit. Still, it adds up quick. Probably $400 after shipping.

My max budget for a pair of headphones is $2000 USD.

My max budget for both amplifier and source are around $1500 USD (as in $1500 for each).

Before I die, I will likely have one (1) headphone setup worth that much, but right now, I'm starting low and making big jumps when I can.

Which could have gotten you an HD650 or K701.

I felt guilty when I got 45 € buds. Now I think they were a waste, but just because of their awful sound quality.

I felt great when I got some 90 € cans, because I thought I could't get any better. Now I think those were too cheap to be good.

When I got some $100 IEMs, I thought I wouldn't be interested in IEMs anymore. Now I feel $250 might be affordable in the near future.

Recently I bought some nice cans for 143 €. I still think it was a bargain, but also keep searching for much more expensive bargains.

At this moment I don't think I'll ever spend more than 300 € in audio stuff. So most likely I'll buy 600 € cans/amp someday. It's pure (head-fi) logic...
