What is this thing stuck to the side of the house?

It's quite small, about 1cm or 2 lengthways and has little holes in the top.

I thought it might be some sort of nest for some weird insect, obviously abandoned due to all the spider webs on it.

Anyone know what it is or what made it?

wasp/hornet nest.

I suggest fire. And lots of it.

1 or 2 cm? Looks like the sucked-out carcass of a rolly polly / potato / whatever the F bug as seen here. It appears that it was encased in web by a spider at one point.

Kinda... How did it get the holes in it?


It seems a bit small for a wasp nest... The holes are really really small, like as big as the holes in the plastic grill bit on the back of the Alessandro MS1.

The holes were where the legs exited its exoskeleton.
