I had a pair of ER4S which I bought in '98 for international travel. It passed away this year not from my use. My beagle puppy made a chewie out of it. If not for my beagle, it would probably have lasted another decade or so. The only maintenance I had to do on it was replace the filter. I bought a new pair to replace it.
