Actually, I felt my HD 555's scaled quite well with even modest amplification. If the OP is not looking to spend a huge amount I think he'll actually be quite pleased with any of the amp options being suggested here.

thanks for the tips, <phenixdown110> & others and sorry for the late reply.
yeah that little dot, but especially the valve class a, do look appealing in both price and specifications.
still i wonder how long these tube amps are durable. ive read somewhere that the tubes themselves usually have warranty no more than 6 months. this would not be good news.
anyway, ill try look for a tube amp in my country (romania) just to make sure i'll take advantage of the warranty given. unfortunately i didnt find such brands in the specialised shops here...

ok, ive found these two headphone amps:
Pro-Ject Head Box II
Pro-Ject Head Box SE II

the second is more than double the price of first - is it worth the difference?
i will not listen loud in headphones and i will be the only one using the amp (so no need for second headphone). is the difference between 30 hz and 20 hz that big? of course im interested in a good bass response. i will only use it at my pc for games and maybe music.
or are the other characteristics relevant enough to make the bigger price worthy?

Please not. I just listened head box this weekend, they sound like crap.

You will have to eventually replace tubes but the good news on the Little Dot Mk11 a retube is 17.00 with NOS tubes. I havent heard the 58.00 Bravo but its a hybrid meaning tube pre solid state amp. I own the Little Dot listen for 10 hrs a day and the tubes are still fine. They have about six months use. I use them with 701,840 and 1001 all with great succwess. Best 200,00 I ever invested sill good for the price,

hi guys, and a happy 2010 new year!

i'm not sure i'm gonna buy a tube amplifier, but today i came across these headphones amplifiers, available to buy online in my country. hopefully one of them would do the trick for my sennheiser pc-350. please recommend me one of these products - of course, i'd prefer to be as cheap as possible, while giving/maintaining what i basically need from my headset: clear cristal sound, with distinctive low, middle and high tones.

Hi - Fi Entertainment - Casti Stereo - Amplificator Casti

i dont need high volume in my headset, i only need good quality. i will use it for games and ocasionally for music (symphonic and rock).
thank you.

p.s. checking an european site i just found out i can (hopefully there's still time to get the offer) get a fubar iv for 125 euros (from that site in my country i can get the same product for a price 3 times bigger! damn).
something's telling me that fubar iv is quite good for me - am i right?

ok, i've decided on a different approach. i am selling my creative x-fi titanium card and buying another sound card, which has an amplifier imbedded: asus xonar essence.
so no more headphones amplifier (at least for some time).
additionally, this asus card has dolby headphone capability, so its supposed to be cool.
i hope.
already ordered it, due to arrive today.

How does that amp handle with Grado's? That'd be cheap enough that I'd want one for my girlfriend.

well i dont know, as i've only got sennheiser pc-350.
as a first impression for asus xonar essence - no big deal, really. i mean, not one worthing double the price of creative x-fi titanium.
dolby headphone? a disappointment, very little effect added. no, it does not fill your head as i would expected.
as for the amp, yeah, you do get louder signal (my senn pc-350 is 150 ohms impedance, so it needed that) but thats about it. i didnt necessarily perceive a rise in sound quality.
ok, i've only listened on asus on 2 games so far: dirt 2 (sound ok, apparently a bit more sounds audible than with x-fi titanium) and gta4 (disappointment, sounds appear like from inside a barrel). also, some music but of low quality signal.

i'll try some further testing today and if i dont like it, ill just send asus back and keep the x-fi titanium. OR, send it back and ask them to send me instead x-fi titanium fatality pro (unfortunately though, i will think twice about that, as ive heard there are still no drivers for windows 7 for fatality card)

so in the end, i may be glad i didnt get to sell my x-fi titanium as yet.

Aynjell: i didnt order the furbar 4 amp anymore.
