I have a Creative ZEN Micro and an iPod Mini (1st gen) ... I've always felt that the ZEN sounded waay much better then the iPod, even without the built-in enhancements.

True, I agree that the earphones too play a part, but I think nothing beats the Creative ZEN in terms of audio quality. Do your ears a favour and listen to the difference today!

Can't wait to get my hands on the Creative ZEN this holiday. Yippee!!

I also recommend the kenwood. I love mine

Just to give an idea of the SQ.

I compared it with my ZVM + headsix. The kenwood still won in terms of clarity and bass response.

The iPod mini had the worst sound quality of all the iPods.

Are you judging this from experience, or just Sony's ridiculously conservative spec? It's got plenty of power to drive my Atrios. I never need to go above half, even when listening in a loud environment.

I assume you mean sans external amplification?

Also, are you planning to play mp3's, or some other (ie. some lossless) format?
