What is the best PS2 game so far?

Re: FFX Final Boss

Yeah, it's the issue of the "break the damage limit" and leveling up thing. I think that Yuna>Holy was my only attack that would have gone over the damage limit. Lulu>Ultima was somewhat under the damage limit. Auron, Tidus, and Wakka did damage in the 4000-5000 range, with Rikku, Kimahari bringing up the rear at about 1000-2000 damage. HP was just as bad, Auron had about 7k, everyone else had below 5k, sometimes by a lot.

120 hours of play got me 15000+ HP for all the characters and average attack of 12000 for rikku, kilmahri, lulu and wakka. My Tidus, Yuna, and Auron could do anywhere between 25000 - 50000 damage on an average hit. I love it when I show my sphere grid to friends who have played it and they stare in amazement seeing that almost the whole sphere grid of all my characters are completely filled in.

I agree. Isn't there supposed to be a sequel?

Im not sure about Shadow of Colossus.

I played it and beat the first two bosses and got bored already.
Are you just supposed to beat all those 15 or something bosses and that's it?

No acquiring weapons, side quests, level up, NPCs, etc etc?
If that's true, damn that boring.

Now I realised actually PC games got much better proportion of good games eh?

I kind of felt the same way about Ico...played it for about two hours so far and it doesn't really engage me. It's a game I seem to play...just to play...not because I really want to play it. Sure I can appreciate it from the "work of art" point of view, but gameplaywise, it's nothing to write home about.

I think basically, the beginning of the game (the intro cut scene) also plays a major part in giving you the 1st impression of the game.

I'm not bashing the Shadow of Colossus here, but I use that as an example, where the intro is only so so, therefore it didn't really get me in the mood for that game.
However, Onimusha 3 has awesome intro, made me really wanna play it, but ended up disappointed with the ending and gameplay overall, turns out the best part is the intro.

Anyway, I have just started playing Genji.
Now this is awesome game. Very beautiful game, very good cut scene, and also in game graphic.
And the atmosphere of the game is just great, really takes you into this whole ancient Japanese era stuff. Might wanna check it out guys.

That's the whole point!

Now I'm up to Chapter 3 playing Genji.
Very interesting so far.
The special combo (can't remember what it's called) is very fun to use, and did I mention this game is so beautiful?

IYO. If you think SOtC is boring, don't play ICO.

SOtC is GTA compared to ICO.

ICO might be my favorite game. Its appeal is very unique.

Since Ps2 can play Ps1 games, I'm going to mention FF tactics. I've wasted untold hours of my life on that evil, addictive, challenging game with its charming graphics and beautiful music.

are there any rpg games for the ps2 or especially the gbasp that are NOT like ff9? i honestly gave it a real shot but there's something about ff9 that just annoys me. i think it's the combat mode. i would prefer a rpg that integrated combat better in the game, and with MUCH fewer cutscenes.

are any of the zelda gmes for gba any good? i'm considering minish cap.

my all time favorite rpg games are zork 2 and ultima 2 for the apple ][, just to give you an idea how long i've been playing them.

Minish cap is good. Star ocean 3 has a really fun battle system IMO, but there are numerous cutscenes (with questionable voice acting).

Redshifter, you picked the wrong Final Fantasy. You should try either X or X-2 for a better idea of the FF system. Most big budget console rpgs use some form of combat between X and X-2. FF9 was the only final fantasy I didn't play. If done well, the cut scenes are actually a reward. If they ever remake VII and VIII, those are worth a shot, as well. VII had a great system, but they're all in the same essentially turn based vein, some with a ticking clock, and others purely turn based.

I don't care for Star Ocean at all myself, but many enjoy it.

There was an old PS game, Vagrant Story, which may have a combat system you enjoy more. The Shadow Hearts system for PS2 is similar but Vagrant Story had a much better presentation and package. If it weren't so darned hard, I'd have finished it.

I forgot the title already, but I remember I played a Playstation One RPG game with a very unique combat system.

You basically are given this much slot to fill in with your command moves during combat, then with that slot, basically you just press any directional buttons, and just see whether you have found yourself a new combo or something.

Anyway, it is more interesting than what it sounds like here.

Is FInal Fantasy X-2 worth playing, or it's just like a short, expansion-type kind of thing based from FF X?
