I personally liked both Xenosaga I and II, but I knew from the get-go that the game was the vehicle for the story and not other way around. Bit like Xenogears from PS1, which incidentally was created by the folks who created Xenosaga series.

I picked it up on multiple recommendations, no one mentioned to me the amount of FMVs...I made it up to the FMV with the save points and I was just like...oh hell no. This is a bit much.

The frog golf game btw is called Ribbit King. And of course I have to give a nod to both Frequency and Amplitude for being some of the finest rhythm games EVER.

nice one. I really couldn't remember the name. Maybe because the name's "The Boss" that's why I couldn't remember it.

Suikoden 3 is ok but they allow you to play the different story arcs in the order of your own choosing. If you do it the wrong way, like I did, you'll get very demoralized since you feel like you're doing everything over again, and levelling everyone up all over again, and again, and again. If you play it, make sure you give everyone equal time right from the start. Don't play someone's arc until you can't play it any more.

A shame no one's played Ippo.

I did think it very cool to get a backstory on Big Boss, Ocelot, and others though...

If you go into your codec after beating the Fear or killing the End before you're supposed to, you'll be told about the legend of the Cobra Unit and why they explode. One word: Microbombs

and what makes it special?

Reason is, holiday is coming, I just wanna have some game title ideas, I might find something I really like out of recommendation here.

My take, so far, I think the best one I have ever played is Metal Gear Solid 3 (Snake Eater).
If I rate it:
Solid Snake:
Graphic - 9 (Well, for PS2 standard)
Gameplay - 9
Sound - 9
Story - 9
Replayability- 9

It's almost perfect really. What makes it not perfect is probably it finishes.

Man, all the MGS3 love all of a sudden! I absolutely loved this game even before it came out and it never dissappointed. I even still have my demo of it, and even its blast to play. But alas, I am quite put off by Konami pushing back the release of MGS3: Subsistence to March 2006- considering everything that is being put into this installment, I can kind of understand, but it would have been nice to be able to play it this year as scheduled. Desite that, I'm sure when Subsistence finally touches down, it'll be one seriously kick ass game (3 discs + online + a whole lot more, btw).

This is a sleeper hit, but I think one of the greatest games ever to grace the PS2 is Amplitude. It's INCREDIBLY addicting. It's a music game where you have to tap the beat to some real music. You have to play the drum track, guitar track, bass track...etc. There are some great songs by Blink 182, Chemical Brothers, David Bowie and WAY more. With each track you have to play 2 bars without missing a beat by hitting L1, triangle and R2 as needed. The graphics are very psychadelic. The idea is to combo and not miss the beat as you go through every track. So if you complete a track and IMMEDIATELY go to any other track and keep the music alive then you're score begins to soar. If you miss any notes then your "life" meter goes down. There are some power-ups too. You can use an autoblaster to clear a track incase you miss a note, you can use a score doubler to double your score on that track (the harder the track, the more points) you can also use a freestyler to clear all tracks and freestyle to the music and gain your sanity back. You can go online and challenge other players as well (up to 4 can play). It's really hard to explain, but this game is amazing! You can also create your own mixes of existing songs (which you can make to sound MUCH different then the original song), go online trade em, or play them with other people. You can download the most popular mixes that people create and they get pretty amazing! If you love music, want a game that gets VERY challenging, and want to feel like you're playing real instruments with some fun graphics then get this game. But don't say I didn't warn ya... this game is pure digital crack.

This link may help explain this game better...

We have to have GTA 3 on there... I put many hours into that one and Mercenaries is also very worthy IMO.

Tekken 5 / Burnout for multiplayer and Final Fantasy X for single player. I just loved the story, characters, music and amazing cut scenes.

Even though I just bought my super-slim/tiny PS2 on Black Friday and only own two games, I can definately say that Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best games I've ever played. The art direction, the hugeness and greatness of the colossi, and the somber feeling you get when you defeat them after a long-fought battle is one of the best video game experiences I've had in a very long time. MGS 3: Snake Eater is on the list of games I'm buying very shortly though

. But SotC is absolutely amazing, and it was developed by the same guy who made Ico.

wow i don't push my PS2 that hard i guess. I stick to 2D capcom games on it. Since it's capable of some nice 3D rendering i suppose i should pick up an old copy of FFX?

Favorite three in no specific order are Disgaea, Shadow Hearts Covenant, and Front Mission 4.

I liked FFX until the final boss battle. I went through the game without doing much leveling up, and found the last boss to be impossibly difficult, completely out of line compared to the rest of the mandatory bosses. Since I didn't feel like grinding through the leveling up process, I still haven't finished that game.
