I think it depends more on how you define smooth. 
 
A style like rap doesn't seem very smooth to these ears. They are talking, it is very stuttered.
 
Smooth to me would be some great jazz singing, but I think voice alone would be hard to produce "smooth". 
 
Ambient or some something slow and melodic sounds more like it to me.
