Like others have said, there is no "best" headphone. It's about your preferences. People recommend a lot of stuff like the HD598 and M50, but I find both of those pretty mediocre. Others might think my preferences sound like crap to their ears.

Need to know some other info too. Do you want closed (isolating) or open (sounds much better, but people around you can hear it too) headphones? What headphones are you coming from? What kind of sound do you like? Clarity? Bass? Do they need to be portable?

This is what I would say if you want open phones. It beats a lot of headphones in the $150-200 range and you can use the leftover cash to buy a nice little amp. You'll love it with the music you listen to.

If you want closed, Audio Technica MSR7 is the best sounding in the price range I've heard, but that's a very competitive bracket with some nice stuff I haven't heard.

I heard that Audio techca MSR7 is not very comfortable and is heavy.  is this true ?  there is no debating sound quality on that headphone, I heard it is excellent.

Out of the box there's a tight clamping force and the earcups can be shallow for some. Both of these can be remedied easily though.

Still, we need to know more about what you're looking for so we can narrow it down. It sounds like you're looking for a closed portable that works well with classical from what I can gather.

Already you have mentioned that you are using a phone and a PC for listening. Well some highly rated headphones here like the had 598 won't sound good straight from both these sources. If you have an iPhone4s or above, it might be as good as an entry level dedicated player. But if I were in your place strict on the budget, I would have invested the total budget on a DAC / Amp combo device like the fiio q1 to make sure the headphone I buy for the rest of the budget sounds decent. If you already have a flagship phone by the major brands, "possibility" is they would have enough power to drive the low impedance headphones.

yes, Closed portable that works well with classical music, especially Piano music.  I am an amateur pianist that spend part of the time transcribing classical music and performing.   When we practice we listen to ourself thru headphone plus listen to other performances by another Professional artists perform so we can learn their interpretations of the music before adapting to our interpretations.

If you are interested in the Senn HD598 and want to save some money then just buy the HD558 model instead, exact same driver with a bit of material added to block a bit of the highs which can be removed if wanted. I use mine stock though and perfectly happy with them, I did own HD598 too but gave them away as a gift so replaced them with HD558 to see what the dif is and it is very little. I actually prefer the black color of the HD558 over the cream of the HD598 but I see you can get HD598 in black too now.

Hahaha. Thanks for that. One of the best quotes I've seen around here. Pianists have to keep their porn habits classy.

Anyway, MSR7 would be my call for best sound, followed by the NAD HP50 in that price range. Both will be great with classical music. MSR7 is brighter and more detailed, HP50 is more warm and lush, but still with good detail. If you compare them to pianos, the MSR7 is a nice Yamaha and the HP50 is like an older Steinway. You should be able to find them around $200 pretty easily. The MDR1A is fine for pop music or hip hop, but won't sound great with classical. It's quite overpriced compared to what you can get for a little cheaper. It has some nice comfort going for it, but I found the HP50 just as comfortable in the short time I spent with it. Those would be my suggestions anyway.
