I love these "what are the best" threads... Chances are you won't get many answers as there is a wide consensus there's no such thing as the best. Only what you yourself perceive to be "the best" so go out and listen to as many as you can and enjoy the ride, and enjoy this hobby!

$200ish? HD598 or a HD600 or 650 on sale (or used)

They are Sennheisers, You have posted a very difficult question but imo an easy answer... HD600. They are a fantastic gateway into our hobby. One proviso... what is your source and listening surrounding?

Like others said, there's no such thing. I could blurt out some random brands I appreciate but they would be meaningless without understanding what types of sound you appreciate and what type of gear you have to drive them (do you have an amp or dac?).

Instead of following blind recommendations (many  sites or people would blurt out some Sennheisers or ATH-M50 as recommendations) I recommend you try to understand what sound characteristics you appreciate or what kind of music you listen to so we can give you a more educated suggestion.

Yes, I need it to listen to mainly Classical Music like Piano lang lang, orchestras and Tenors like Hayley Westnostra, or Rhenee Fleming.   and watching movies and utube videos too.  Thanks

If you're listening to genres like that, then tonality and soundstage are going to be your biggest criteria. HD600 or HD650 if you can snag one. Buy used and save. If you don't like it, sell it at a minimal loss. Good luck, and sorry about your wallet!

In true Head-Fi fashion, I'll say the best over the ear headphone is the next one

I did find this in the For Sale forum:

A bit above your budget but that includes shipping and paypal fees.

The next best thing would be the HD 598s I would think. My taste is in bass so I've no experience with open-backs though.

I own both the 650 and the 598SE, I switch between them every now and then. The 598 is more neutral 650 is lusher with more forward bass, but theyre both fantastic headphones. I use both all the time and through a decent source either will do everything you need them to. Both are hands down the most comfortable headphones on the market though, could wear either all day and forget I'm even wearing them.

Search is your friend.  Do you know the difference between open back and closed back headphones.  Learn about that first and then will help you understand where to go next. If open back are ok for you a used pair of HD600 is your best bet.
