For me its:

1. Guitar
2. Piano
3. Any remaining string instrument (from cellos, to Chinese/Japanese/Arabic traditional instruments etc.)
4. Vocals (I really like group vocals too, like hymns)
5. Drums
6. Synthesizer (man-made sounds such as sounds you hear in electronic music)

Yo-Yo Ma? You need some to listen to some real cellists there

I was very nearly a conservatory student studying cello performance, so I suppose I'll rank that as 1. My secondary instrument is the bassoon, so I'll call that number 2. Classical piano comes in at number 3.

I love listening to rock music, but I never found guitar, bass guitar, or drums to have any sort of great instrumental qualities to them.

Also, I seem to remember this thread existing a month or so ago. Hmm.... Ah, yes, here it is. It would seem my tastes haven't changed much in the last month http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/79460/favorite-and-most-hated-instruments/75#post_6905594

I guess picking a favorite instrument isn't far enough down the rabbit hole for me. I like technique and personal characteristics from the artists. It's like tube rolling, but for performers.

Mellotron--I'm obsessed with them.

That said, almost every instrument can have its moments. I even caught myself liking the steel pedal guitar used on several Yes albums, even though I normally don't much care for that instrument.

The pipe organ is pretty darn cool as an instrument.  So is a symphony orchestra.
