I was using Koss UR20s for home use and Panasonic Shockwave over-the-head headphones (I don't know the exact model, but they came in different colours) for portable use.
My first order of business was to buy either the PX100s or the Koss PortaPros, due to reviews elsewhere and comments that led me to Head-Fi. I picked the Senns and my wallet whimpered in dread of the days to come.
Prior to my getting involved in Head-Fi, I feel pretty good about saying that I used Senn 580s and Ety ER4s through a Headroom Total Bithead and Stax SRX Mk3 through a Mac amp / SRD-7sb. After Head-Fi (a bit more than one year now) forget about it. I've just been a ravenous beast!
Found out about sources, amplification, and current headphone offerings; then got Total BitHead + HD555 package from HeadRoom. Happy, and have since focused on building up music collection.
Sony MDR-V6 for Digital. Whatever the hell "for digital" means.
They were fantastic and served me well for literally 12 years. I just gave them to my little brother last month to use with his iPod. They are doubled up as ear muffs in the cold northwest Ohio winters while I was walking to and from class.
I did an A/B test between the Sony's and one of my buddies AKG 701's and I was all well... I can obviously never listen to those Sony's ever again.
E2C's---cream of the crop of ALL best buy offerings...LOL (and for $70 CAD, I doubt there is a better choice). Curiously, I'm still using these regularly...
