Thanks for the reply, audiophile01. BTW, you know what's the purpose of that nipple-like thing?

The Ultrasone PROline 2500 is open and has deep, impactful bass. Certainly to be recommended!

Thanks for the reply, Zoide. How does the Ultrasone's bass compare to the Beyer and L3000?

Certainly better than that of the Beyer DT-990, but unfortunately I haven't listened to the L3000 so I couldn't say.

I've read a few comments that state the PS-1's have the greatest. I'm not sure if you want to test those to destruction though, considering their cost and availability.

It's gotta be the crappy headphones. Sony V700 have a lot. My friend bought some cheap "5.1" headphones and they had way too much bass too. This is all relative to the other frequencies though..

AD2000 is the only open headphone I've heard that sinks to get it all when it comes to bass. It's not high on the impact factor (and actually gets mercilessly thrashed by my new K340 in that aspect) but the extension, control, and speed is the best I've heard from any open headphone.

Have you looked into electrostats?

My Proline 650 has insanely deep going bass and lots of impact. Can hear all the way down to 20Hz, and this is a headphone where I can actually feel the bass too. Quality is VERY debatable, but its atleast fast enough for me. It doesnt blur out in very fast doublebass drumming nor in blastbeats. In some recordings its overpowering, but that can be EQed.

The JVC HP-DX1000 has prodigious bass output. Especially deep bass, where it is probably without peer. The Darth Beyers have more mid-bass output, but for 40hz and below, the DX1000's are top.

I'll stop you all there. cotdt isn't going to listen to these headphones, he's going to destroy them with ever-more-powerful input.

Therefore, some darth boobies, or soe L3000's or some PS-1's are not going to be a sensible choice.

I say you'd be better off with some Sony fart cannons, v700's or something, as Zenja suggests, that way you're not killing off anything good in your experimenting.

Sorry to thread crap, but you're already a Supremus, cotdt, you don't need to congratulate every poster who leaves a response to your question. Now, back on topic, I think you should probably look at some low end Sony's, or perhaps the Senn 201's; I thought they had tremendous bass impact.
