i know you dont want a brick, but the Zen W has good lineout. it is a brick tho. what about an Iriver tho? they small and have a good lineout.

IMO, by looking for a DAP that is "not too common" is hindering yourself. Besides, being "too common" has nothing to do with sound quality.
