Yes it is very nerdy, but it is what an eargasm looks like. I can't have an eargasm with somebody watching me, so I don't have any photos of mine.

LOL @ Fitz.

For me, it's the urge to smile. I usually don't smile when listening but if I hear somehthing special and it makes me smile then wow = eargasm for me.

Then, there is the rare but wonderfullllll - WOW which occurs at meets. This is where I just take off my headphones and decide I'm going to buy whatever I just heard. Happened only once - with Susuan Wong.

For me it can occur in a few different ways:

1) I am so moved by what I am hearing that my eyes well up with tears. Doesn't happen often, but when it does it is a pretty cool experience. Yep - I am man enough to admit it.

2) I am so moved by what I hear that I get goose bumps. Transcendent and meaningful vocals do this for me most of the time.

3) I am so amazed with what I am hearing and it demands my attention so much that I can't focus on anything else except for the music. It's like the only things that exist is me and the music. Nothing else matters.

X2, with the addition of heavy facial tissue usage, plus the afore mentioned smiles that seem to linger and linger and linger and....become welded on for quite a long while!

I imagine my level 2, which appears to be much like lmilhan's level 3 eargasm could be much in the same vein as someone attaining Nirvana through meditation. I don't know about anyone else, but I've only had an eargasm a few times where the music was familiar to me. Getting into the music seems to be more free where familiarity hasn't dulled the impact. What's more, something that once gave me an eargasm, may not repeat. I think mood likely has a lot to do with that.

I listen a lot before bed, and it's when I'm totally focused on the music, laying back in the dark, that I kind of "fall in" to the music. Like my sole perception is the performance I'm hearing. Even I cease to exist. Sadly, like their semi-namesakes, my eargasms tend to be intense, but fleeting.

Hmm. Methinks the space thread is overstimulating my mind.

Yeah! This happens to me with live music when it is moving to me. It has never happened with a recording but live music, particularly great jazz and classical, gets me weeping from time to time.

I am also man enough to admit it.

That's true. Some of my best moments were onstage playing with our blues band in high school.

But yeah when I'm having a really good one, I get really intense goosebumps and I almost go numb and it's almost like I'm not even listening to the music because I kinda lost my hearing for a second. Now that's a good one!

man, I have one every time I listen to "Round Here" by Counting Crows. I don't know why, but I get shivers down my spine and my eyes roll back.

Hey, I had goosebumps at the national meet listening to LFFs needled drop remasters > in Ray Samuels' Meridian CDP > B52 > Sony R10s. I didn't really recognize it at the time as an eargasm, but thinking back, yeah it definitely was.

Just had my first one in ages. Replaced the tips and filters of my ER4s, listening to Ben Harper and The Blind Boys of Alabama via my Mapletree. The whole warm head/shiver down spine business. Awesome!
