You're all misunderstanding why musicians and artists wears IEM's during performances and such... 

 
well, as only the smart know, they have them hooked to their ipods listening to other songs just so they don't get bored of their own material...they are so talented that they can even perform their own songs while listening to other songs. 

 
you know, they're up on stage for hours and I'm sure they get really bored, so they try to sneak an ipod into their pocket and listen to songs on stage... 

 
they also have a lot of money, so they buy the most expensive IEM's. don't think they wear the most expensive for performance use...it's because they have the money and you don't. 

 
No, they don't use them for any other purposes...it's mainly to listen to music on stage while they perform.

but I agree its time for this thread to end since people seem to talking about different things, and I'm now confused as to what the OP even wanted but to my understanding he wanted to know why people wanted customs:
 
1. comfort over unvirsal IEMs, since well... they are made for your ears, and univerals are not
2. decent isolation (and please no, what do you need it for, hope you have fun getting hit by a car bit)
3. sound quality
 
and as to why stage prefomers what them?
 
I'm not one myself, but common sense would say for the roughly same reasons
 
and to why customs sound better than univerals?
 
I'd have to hazard a guess that the shell is bigger, so more divers/more room to fit the drivers. Also they probarly use "better" drivers than the high end univerals.

I think UE is the most popular, but JH Audio is slowly regaining the popularity.

Surprised this didn't get locked, but it's always interesting to see a troll wander in. At least I have to give him credit for not coming in with 5 posts.
Pretty basic display of (usually, not in this case) elementary school kids who ask for help but don't have a care in the slightest to retain or absorb that information.
