Just wondering if anyone knows which DACs or DAC Combos can do 192khz 24bit playback through the USB interface. Some of the newer products like the dacmagic and icon HDP don't do it. Yet it seems the emu 0404 usb and 0202 usb (both older products) might be able to do it. I'm not really sure though.

I dont even think thats technically possible - maybe under USB 2.0, but 192 is severely overrated : I own two amps which will do 192 over Toslink and my reaction is usually 'meh ..'. Perhaps I just dont have access to the music needed to do justice to 192.

As estreeter suggested, I wouldn't bother caring. There is no benefit to 24/192 and even the benefits of 24/96 are very limited. If you're spending a few thousand on a DAC, it might be worth caring at least about 24/96, but there are other more important factors IMO than that.

exactly, its like some of the people who think that resolution is the only thing that determines picture quality on a tv, when contrast and color accuracy are far more important. Some engineers even think that 192 is a detriment, not even that it doesnt help, but that it hurts.

Well you have to think about this scenario, if the source file you get is 192khz, I'd rather have the DAC support it rather than do SRC and send it to the DAC.

And also, when would 192 sound worse than 96? If the original came from 192, how could 96 ever be better than it? Unless of course your DAC just happens to play 96khz material better than it plays 192khz material. Which I don't know if that's ever the case.

To at least answer his question, the EMU 0404 USB does this.

...and EMU 0202 USB. Both are also capable of recording at 192/24.

The upcoming Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1 is supposed to have 192/24 asynchronous USB input option.
