Nothing will ever smash LoTR's.... Another series may have its own great style, but really.......GoT's is cool, but really hard on characters. Wheel of time is great but long in development, etc...

seriously? How does it compare to game of thrones? is it up there as well? Is the writing style "page turner and popcorn" or written well? I have started so many Fantasy series and been disappointed in the end, there really are only a handful that are worth it in my opinion. A lot of them are written so badly.

I couldn't immerse myself into GOT tbh, I'd pick LOTR over it and the Last Wish which I've recently started is just amazing. I only recently got into the book after playing the actual video game (which are both fantastic as well). There seemed to be a lot of pre-history before the game and so I wanted to give the books ago which supposedly cover the whole picture. The witcher books are more much more fantasy based than either GOT or LOTR.

Did you start with the stories or the saga? Is it translated to English or is English his 1st language?

I've got Blood of Elves and Times of Contempt ordered so they should come soon as for me once I get into a book I really get into it usually finishing it in a day or few depending on the page count. I've gone halfway through the last wish which is just a bunch of short stories put together but it's really good, filling in the blanks that left me pondering after I completed both the witcher video games.

Seriously you can't go wrong with the book just give it a go.

I have read the 3 of them and i agree with you. I really like WOT but i grew up reading those so there is a nostalgic connection i have there.

By the way i think GRR Martin will need more than 7 books to finish GOT. He looks very unhealthy and i just keep thinking that he wont finish the series. I keep thinking of james gandolfini and how he died of a heart attack at 51 and then i look at martin and i think the same thing could happen.

I agree...He has not done much since book 5 and there are too many threads to wrap up in just 2 books...Of course he may run out of characters to kill, so it could end after two!

I beg to differ, read the mentioned books I've posted and post back your impressions. I'am not alone out there in the statement that the Witcher books are better (in a different entire aspect) to the Tolkien series.

those are big words and claims. Now i cant wait to read it but, i will say, I have had terrible experience with translated books in the past. If the writing is not up to scratch it will drive me crazy.
I have read so many books over the years that have been translated to English and lost too much in the translation like ¬Gunter Grass - the tin drum and Goa Xingjian - Soul mountain to name a few. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and look forward to reading them - i will get back to you.

Yeah its not bad since its properly translated and published but its taking its sweet time I mean these books were written over 2 decades ago almost.

so only 2 of the novels have been translated? the 3rd one is out next year and the story has been finished in polish? Is it important to read the short stories first? Have you read "the sword of destiny"

Yeh the other books are still being translated and no I have not as I'm reading as per recommendation given by others if you've played the games.

i have not played the games but the PS4 version looks amazing. They say its more than 20% bigger than skyrim.

Yep thats the new witcher (3) coming out next year but TBA. They claimed it will take over hundreds of hours to complete everything and 70% bigger than the predecessor witchers in terms of open world exploring. The games follow the books. It's best to play from 1 and work your way through to 3.

Available on all platforms.
