What Beyerdynamics should i buy?

Under what circumstances would the DT931's have the bass that the DT531's have? So to have your cake AND eat it?

Out of 120 ohm with Equinox?? or never? ??

My 831's, out of a Total Airhead with the processor on, dont have enough bass for my tastes...

Has anyone heard the Beyer DT-231? How does it sound, as a portable headphone application?

DT531 looks comfy like 831 and 931.

Thanks guys, this dt531 sounds interesting.

But not as interesting as the dt880!

So many headphones to think about....

Just a little and probably old hint for those whose ears are small enough for moving around a little inside the Beyerdynamic earcups: Try playing around with the fit. For example, I get much better highs with the DT531, if I move it a little forward and downward from the center position on the ears.

P.S.: A new DT880 - oh my, that looks alluring to me. With reduced clamping force of the steel headband, too... I guess, I'll have to phone Beyerdynamic, when I'm back from vacation. <sigh>

Nevertheless, I'm still confused, because the Beyerdynamic lady I've talked to several months ago spoke of a DT531 resdesign, which doesn't seem to have happened yet, though...

Ok I finally got my new phones! But I did not get the 531, instead i bought the Dt770pro. Reason why i changed my mind was that i wanted closed phones because my computer is running 24/7 and i don't want to hear the "humming" when i listen to music.

I won't comment on the sound just yet because they are on "burn in " phase right now. The bad thing in these phones in the beginning is that they are uncomfortable, i know that this has been discussed here before, and i really hope that they will get more comfortable as time goes on. I have large head and the headband is somewhat pressing on my head. I haven't removed padding on the headband just yet. I will give some more information after i have burned those babys in.

Why wait? I just pulled the cups apart with my hands to get them into a shape that gave just the right amount of pressure. Initially, I pulled them a bit too far apart and they became a bit looser than ideal, but I was able to bend them back into the perfect position.

Yeah, just flex the headband a little, that'll fix the clamping problem

On the topic of the DT531s, I don't think they sound technically better than the DT931s, but I find them to be far, far more enjoyable to listen to.
I never get sucked into the music with the DT931s, I find them a little distant and impersonal - sure they have a fantastic soundstage and clarity to die for, so they're great when you're listening to the headphone but when listening to music I much prefer the 531s.
When it's DT770 vs 531, I prefer the 531 unless I really need isolation, add an amp to the 531 and the bass reaches similar impact levels to the 770pro (which really need an amp to drive in the first place).

Other things I like about the dt531s;
price (low)
weight (low)
easy to drive without an amp
enjoyable overall presentation of music

I don't care if they're not technically better, or if "the high end is a little rolled off and there's a bit of a blahblah hump in the yadda range" Yes there are more expensive headphones that have a flatter, more accurate response, but they just don't have the love.

They sound right
Forgiving, yet detailed. Warm, but not dark. Fun without sacrificing quality or fidelity.

Still burning them in...But the good thing is that already they feel much more comfortable, than in beginning. I have one question though. Where is wire supposed to go under the headband (in middle?)?? I removed padding for a while and i did not look where it was in the first place.
