And yes, ROBOCOP is one of the best movies of all time! Absolutely stunning work for its time ('87?).

Oh yeah: Animal House with John Belushi, that's a rad movie to watch

I'm surprised to see so much love for Woody Allen's full-on Bergman phase. Bravo...

Still, I don't know if I'd toss those Allen films at someone at first.

And overall, I'll recommend:

Crimes and Misdemeanors
Full Metal Jacket (my favorite (war) movie of all time)
Magnolia
Blue Velvet (greatest opening sequence ever)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (but I feel as if i'm the only one who loved this movie)
Paris, Texas (have to second this masterpiece)
Hannah and Her Sisters

that's good for now.

You may be right. It is just, that -- aside from the fact that I loved them -- I just wanted to trod off the beaten path [Manhattan, etc.]. I discovered them way too late....

More movies worth seing (though not "the best" in absolute terms):

La Separation
Delicatessen
The Croupier
Say Anything
Short Cuts
Death of a Salesman
......
