Am listening to Rachmaninov - Symphony No 2.
I was googling for a set of Thaikovsky symphonies. One link from my search was,
These are factually the 10 best symphonies of all time
https://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/latest/best-symphony/
I scrolled down and looked at the Thaikovsky that they listed in it. Then the next symphony listed was the Rachmaninov - Symphony No 2, with an embedded Youtube performance of it. I clicked play.

Looks like a pretty good list. Rachmaninoff (or "Rachy" as I like to call him) is one of the best. Sadly, there are no Americans on that list. A few good ones that come to mind are Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, George Gershwin, and Leonard Bernstein.
I think my favorite classical composer (in the generic sense) though is probably Prokofiev, who's probably better known for his ballets, operas and film scores than his symphonies. Though he did all the above, and then some. The politics in Russia and the Soviet Union (under Joseph Stalin) in Prokofiev's day was complex and dangerous, which definitely had an impact on his life and work.
According to Wikipedia, Prokofiev may be the most popular (though not necessarily the best), and most performed composer of the last century...

In an interesting twist of fate, Prokofiev and Stalin both died on the same day, March 5th, 1953. Both also had a protracted illness, and died of cerebral hemorrhage.
I don't really call him Rachy btw. That was a joke.

Nice tune off Kylie's new album Golden, with sort of a Mazzy Star vibe...
Happy 50th Kyl!
