You've never listened to anything by Coltrane from the 60s? My Favorite Things? Olé Coltrane? Africa/Brass? Ballads? Crescent? A Love Supreme? Ascension? He was part of his "Classic Quartet" along with Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones, making him a really well-known jazz pianist. His style is very distinctive and unmistakable. Definitely one of my favorite pianists. In addition to playing with Coltrane and having an extensive career as leader, he's also played with people like Freddie Hubbard (on "Open Sesame" and "Ready for Freddie" for example), Joe Henderson ("Page One", "In 'n Out", "Inner Urge"), Wayne Shorter ("JuJu"), Lee Morgan ("Tom Cat")… The list goes on. Out of his own albums as band leader, "The Real McCoy" is the one that probably gets mentioned most often, but for example "Sahara" is another less often mentioned album that I really like.
