This Doug Sax remaster for Analogue Productions SACD is unbelievably warm, open and clean. Very little background noise or hiss. Fantastic!

I think that the meters are different from other soul funk bands of the time. Some of the crusaders albums come close but not really. You should make it your mission to get the 2 DR John albums - "desitively bonnaroo" and "In the right place" the meters were the session players on both those albums.
 
By the way the best meters albums are after 1970 - IMO that album "here comes the meter man" is there worst output. For some reason its what they are known for but albums like "cabbage Alley" "fire on the bayou" and "rejuvenation" are their best!
