Most historical burger restaurant in the world

I recently visited New Haven, Connecticut and ate an original burger at Louis’ Lunch- the alleged birth place of the hamburger in the year 1900.

Mine was simple. Just meat and bread that’s it and it was fantastic because it tasted like chopped high quality steak on bread. Loved it.

I didn’t want cheese because cheese was not popular until around the 1950s. In the early days of the 20th century burgers were extremely simple.

Possibly best clam pizza

I also had clam pizza at Zuppardis Apizza (pizza is called Apizza in New Haven) in West Haven Connecticut which is outside of New Haven.

The clams are freshly shucked with the perfect balance of garlic, fresh squeeze lemon and slightly hot chili peppers. This clam pizza is legendary and well balanced in flavor. There was a lot of attention to detail to this pizza. Amazing pizza. Loved it.

Potato pizza in New Haven, Connecticut

From Sally’s Apizza (Pizza Is called Apizza in New Haven …..At least traditionally in the 1920s)

Wow. Excellent potato pizza. I won’t get into too much details because Sally’s in New Haven is one of the most famous pizza places in America. There is a Wikipedia page on them and lots of videos on YouTube about them. They are legendary

Lobster roll lunch from Newport Rhode Island

There’s basically two versions of lobster roll. The cold one or the warm one. This was the warm one on a toasted buttered roll. What a lovely lunch

Classic Oysters Rockefeller (baked oysters)

This was hands down the best baked oysters I’ve ever had. Newport Rhode Island is a serious shellfish town. I need to visit again

Local oysters and clams Newport Rhode Island

This was an amazing batch from local waters. Makes a huge difference when shellfish is harvested locally a few miles away. I was blown away with the complexity of the flavors when they are super fresh. Incredible. You really need to visit the locations for the best results….especially if the place has access to the good batches

Also many aficionados feel New England oysters are at their best during the fall, winter and spring and become “flat” tasting in the summer months. So right now is a good time to visit the northern coasts. I’m not sure if it’s true but to me it seems like it

Quick trip to New York City

Crispy crust pepperoni square pizza from Village Square Pizza (East village location) drizzled with a little bit of Mike’s Hot Honey. (For subtle sweet and spicy nuance)

This is a very good pepperoni pizza and probably considered one of the best pepperoni slices.

The bottom crust and side crust is crispy and the pepperoni is also crispy. Although this is not a deep fried, it mimics a deep fried texture. Due to the excellent texture I believe many pepperoni pizza fans will like this a lot.

Also the chewy texture inside is excellent. I normally hate square Sicilian pizzas with that thick bready cotton ball texture. However, this did not have that. Not too thick and not too thin. Excellent balance.

Here is a video review on this pepperoni pizza

Of course, this isn’t the only well regarded pepperoni square in NYC. There’s other ones too to explore.

With my wife and kids we've taken 4 food trips down South the past 12 years mostly searching out BBQ, but Tex-Mex, Creole, Gumbo, also.

Our favorite BBQ place was Big Bob Gibson's in Decatur Alabama. Every different cut and type of meat had its own spices and cooking styles. Memphis is the Epicenter - A&R, Cozy Corner... Etc.

The almost uniformly junky BBQ in New England could start there instead of smearing the same overly sweet sauce over everything. BT's Smokehouse is the best within 2 hours of me. Bub's gets points since I first ate there in 1979. Firefly's is decent. I make better BBQ than all the rest of the outfits I've tried around here - imitation of the slow cook Southern dry rub - sincerest form of flattery..

My most recent nice meal out was in West Hartford at Zahar's a Middle Eastern place with great balance in everything. Maybe the shish kebab was a bit dry but the rest of it was just great.

Wow, I wanted to try that place. I personally like the burger portion, or the meat from an hamburger. In Europe they tend to just make burgers with some seasoning and flavor veggies like garlic or onions inside it. I think Germany and NL eats those kinds. I personally like burgers like that. I guess it's kinda like meatloaf, but in burger form. I like meatloaf a lot too.

It looks like this, and it seems a lot of European counties have similar dish. Two common meats I've seen share across Europe are these types of big meatballs and kielbasa sausages. Both really good.
