Liangpi

What is Liangpi?

It’s Chinese cold noodles from the province of Shaanxi. Particularly in the city of Xi’an.

It’s hard to find this dish but you’re more likely to find it in a Chinese community in a restaurant that specializes in the food of Xi’an.

It’s a very nice dish. I think many people will like it. I did not eat Chinese food as a child but I enjoy these regional dishes now as an adult.

Lamb Brain Masala

A famous dish of Pakistan.

Wow. This was excellent. I’ve had lamb brains before but this version took lamb brains to the next level. I can see why this dish is popular and why people love it. This dish is on the level of a high end restaurant. This restaurant also had a nice outdoor backyard too for seating. I love the food of Pakistan

Also the dish came with a fantastic naan bread on the side. This may possibly be the best version of naan I’ve ever had. It had that perfect texture.

Chicken 65

A chicken dish from India

Chicken 65 was invented at the Buhari hotel in the city of Chennai, India.

This version was crispy on the outside and super soft and silky on the inside. My guess is that it was probably marinated with something to achieve that wonderful refined texture.

This is one of those dishes from India that many people don’t know about but if it were to be advertised many people would love it. It’s really easy to like.

I believe that if more people knew about this, many people would regard it as their favorite chicken dish because it really is that good.

Squid ink macaroni and octopus

From an Italian restaurant.

What is squid ink?…….It’s the black liquid inside of a squid and used to color pasta black in some parts of Italy. That’s why this macaroni pasta is black. Squid ink is also used in Spain too for some of their dishes.

Lovely Korean lunch

Spicy cold noodles with spicy marinated raw skate fish and steamed pork dumplings.

The cold noodle dish was mildly spicy along with the raw marinated skate fish. This was excellent. Loved the texture and complex flavors of sour, mildly salty and slightly sweet. This was well balanced with flavors.

Here’s a close up shot of the steamed dumplings.

Classic Reuben Sandwich

The Reuben sandwich is an old American sandwich that’s commonly associated with the old days of New York City when delis used to be more common.

What makes this version special is that it’s made from house made corned beef and house baked rye bread which makes a huge difference.

I gotta say, this might be the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. Perfectly well balanced and all the ingredients are super high quality.

In case if you didn’t know it corned beef is made of beef brisket. This is high quality house made brisket used here.

Paya

Paya is a popular dish of Pakistan and it’s a goat feet stew.

Paya is probably my favorite dish of Pakistan and this version had an outstanding deep and complex flavor.

Coincidentally a customer next to me also had the same dish and I over heard him telling the restaurant owner that he liked this dish so much that he will order another one for take out. Maybe to offer it to his wife? I don’t know but he appeared to really liking it too.

North Korean cold noodle soup….with a side of mung bean pancake

Also known as naengmyeon. This is an ice cold sour soup and it’s delicious. It’s very unique and there is nothing else like it. The noodle texture is tough and chewy. You kind of have to struggle with it but it’s satisfying and I really like it.

Here’s a shot of the mung bean pancake which was excellent. This dish originated from the Pyongan Province which is located in the north west area of North Korea.

The food of North Korea is delicious.

On a fortunate note, this restaurant had great lighting inside which helped with these attractive artistic like photos.

Herb and feta cheese appetizer from a middle eastern restaurant

This is one of my all time favorite appetizers. It’s light and stimulates your palate.

Very beautiful high quality ingredients and served with flat bread on the side.

Also the simplicity is gorgeous. There is sort of a zen beauty to it. But in order for it to work you need high quality super fresh ingredients.

Big tongue sandwich

Beef tongue sandwiches are actually an American food and were more common in the early and mid 20th century.

This is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life because the meat and bread quality was top notch.

The quality was so high that it did not need and other ingredients like mustard, mayo, etc…The sandwich was very expensive at over $25 however, premium quality ingredients were used to justify to high cost….I was actually surprised how good it was.

For me the best way to eat it is to remove some of the meat so it can fit in my mouth. With the left over meat, I take it with me and have it for dinner. I also requested extra slices of bread for take out too.

Deep fried pork belly appetizer.

Pork belly is the same meat as bacon but it is not processed so technically it’s not really that bacon we know of ….but it’s still awesome.

A really good dish at a bar. Goes well with beer.

Served with hot sauce for the ultimate complimentary perfection.

Vietnamese meatball Bánh mi.

What is Bánh mi?

Bánh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich on a long roll. Typically the filling options are pork, chicken, sardines, etc….along with Vietnamese vegetables.

This particular version has meatballs.

Vietnamese meatballs? Yes. Meatballs are actually a part of the culture.

This was from a dedicated Bánh mi shop that only has Bánh mi on their menu and nothing else. It was possibly the best Bánh mi I’ve had so far.

The meatballs were outstanding. They were soft and juicy and melted in my mouth. The vegetables were extra crisp due to the super fresh conditions. Since the menu was limited I feel the management really monitored the ingredients better.

Not all Vietnamese meatballs are the same in every restaurant. Your mileage may vary so keep that in mind if you decide to search for the perfect meatball.

This place also used a Vietnamese brand hot sauce which was excellent. I feel that Chin Su hot sauce could potentially be popular in America if it was promoted. I think it could go well with breakfast eggs and breakfast potatoes too. I believe this Vietnamese hot sauce can blend well with American food.

Bo Ne (Vietnamese steak and eggs)

Bo Ne is the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs and I gotta say…this was the best version of steak and eggs I’ve ever had. What a fantastic version.

This Bo Ne was served with a dollop of pâté on top of the eggs and also 2 Vietnamese meatballs as a bonus.

Keep in mind that not all Bo Ne versions are the same. Some restaurants will serve mediocre versions so you mileage may vary if you decide to try it.

Although this photo looks a little ugly. It was excellent.
