What are the most comfortable headphones EVER?

I can't imagine any headphone being more comfortable than the AKG K500/K501s. It's like they're barely there.

my hd600s were very comfortable -- i have never understood how someone could find them uncomfortable.

then i got my sr404s. absolutely, positively for indefinite amounts of time comfortable! of course you look like an idiot wearing them . . .

d2000s for sure! They put the DT-880s to shame.

Although I wasn't a big HD590 fan (not many were, but again it's all about personal taste), but man, those were easily the most comfortable headphones I have ever strapped on my head.

The HD265 are comfy too (also discontinued) but my dome is pretty narrow so I didn't wear them too much.

All Stax models were pretty comfy to me as well. The K1000 are comfy too, just floating in space.

Out of our current selection, the PXC450 is at the top of the list.

HD595 and D2000 (tie) --
close second: Darth Beyers, very closely followed by
(Beyer DT770/880/990) -- every Darth Beyer seems to me that it was pre-stretched a little by Larry at Headphile, before shipping -- or maybe it's my imagination.
Anybody else notice this?

My personal ranking based on my own head-ears size and shape:

1.- Sony CD3000: I didn't think it were possible making closed cans this comfy.
2.- AKG K701 They leave a lot of room for the ears to breathe. Low clamping force, quite lightweight on the head. I suppose the K601/501 would be about the same.
3.- Sennheiser HD600/650/580 Also lots of room for the ears to breathe. More clamping force, still lightweight on the head.
4.- Sony R10 Low clamping and lightweight. Less room for the ears, some heat after several hours. The JVC DX1000 rank about the same.
5.- Denon D5000: Somehow more clamping force than R10 or DX1000, some heat after time wearing them and more weight over the head (mine are Markl's modded, so they weigh a bit more than stock ones).

I've never tried any Beyerdinamics, but they look like very comfy and users report they are. Don't know how would they rank.

Well below the above mentioned there's the lot of Ultrasone. I never could stand any Grados (never tried GS1000) for more than minutes. No experience with any Audio Technica. For Stax I lived with the 404 for a while. Not comfy in my book, a bit more than Ultrasone, but far from the six included in the rank.

Rgrds

Personally I felt that the HD 580s were the most comfortablest headphones. Then again I can only compare to grados and the K701 and although I felt that the K701 were quite comfy, the HD 580's snug fit won me over in the end.

I can barely tell my HD555s are on half the time.

I think the AH-D5000 is the most comfortable of any pair that I at least have ever worn (Although DT770s are fairly comfortable, too much clamping force).

I haven't read this whole thread but this is my opinion: DT-990 '05

There is a caveat. To me (and I have a size 7-7/8" head), there is too much clamping from the factory. I had to do a Grado stretch on them to get them to fit comfortably. I can now wear them for hours.

I also have a pair of HD-580s and they clamp too much. I'm afraid to try to stretch them as they do not have a metal headband like Grados or Beyers.

Of my Grados, my RS-1s are the most comfortable because they are the lightest. Then come my HF-1s because of the bowl pads and then the SR-60s with their comfies that make my ears itch.

My UE Super.Fi 5 Pros with Comply T-400s are very, very comfortable, too.

Out of my experiences I would rank them:

1. Sennheiser HD570, lightweight with reaaaally soft pads. I think they would be the same as previously mentioned HD590. These are so far the only 'phones I have tried that I could wear all day without being bothered by them I think.
2. Sennheiser HD650, well stretched out pair with no clamping problems that I read about from time to time.
3. Grado SR325i, (chocker huh?

) somehow the store that had them on display had "squished" the bowl pads (by having them on the headphone hanger they had I think) so these were actually very comfy.
4. Alessandro MS1 w. 414 pads reverse modded.
5. Audio Technica ESW9, get´s a bit clampy on the ears after long listening sessions plus I wear glasses so I think that´s a contributing factor.
6. AKG K701, (other chocker
tongue.gif
) I found these quite uncomfortable, the reason being partly that the headband didn´t stretch out far enough for my big head, so they were constantly sitting to high on the head. Plus they clamped a bit so my glasses got kind of pushed out and got all crooked.
7. AKG K518, yet another example of AKGs having a too small headband for me, couldn´t get these to fit on my head in any sensible way, the only option that worked "well" was having the headband going behind my neck, and that would not have worked when moving around.

That´s all I could remember at the moment.

1) Koss KSC75 modded with a cheap metal headband. Very light, not clamping and fit & forget. Very portable.
2) Sony Qualia - very light full sized headphones with nice leather seal. Can move around and sit back in a chair without them moving at all because they're so light.
3) Denon D5000 - very nice stock. Modding with dynamat makes them quite a bit heavier and not so comfy.
