What are the differences between the Beyerdynamic DT770 and Alessandro MS-1?

I don't recommend the 770s for most rock, at least not over the MS-1 (I have 770s and Grado SR-125s, which is close enough for a comparison). I find electric guitars are less than 'electric' on the 770s. They sound more urgent, though compressed, on the Grados. Vocals are more upfront too on the Grados. On the other hand, spacious prog-rock and other headphone music sounds a great deal better on the 770s. It can take a while to adjust to the sound of guitar music on the 770s, whereas the Grados are immeditely involving. Dreadfully uncomfortable though, even with the comfies and endless tweaking of the headband.

Another thing to think about is whether you will be listening to music at the computer. Grados cut out exactly 0% of background noise.

The comfort of the MS-1s with the reversed Senn HD414 pads isn't really all that bad.

....at least not to me. YMMV.

While doing a "Let's add some weight to the MS-1s to simulate MS2i listening test" night before last; I pulled a six hour listening session that was actually halted because it was getting far beyond bedtime!!

I normally listen for two to four hours......the Wife is usually the one who halts my listening sessions....and find the MS-1s to be more than acceptably comfortable.
