If money wasn't a problem, what are the best quality headphones out there right now?

Alright, I guess since there isn't a single headphone that's the best, what are some that are the best?

There are a number of headphones that are considered the "best" by different people. Most are no longer in production and command a pretty penny (think $2500 and up, way up).

It's about what sounds best to you, not what sounds best to me.

There are just so many subjective issues with each headphone to say that any one headphone is best. It is like saying which band is best, which vocalist is best, which arena is best, which auditorium is best, which piano; you get the picture. Then there is the synergy with the associate equipment that has such an influence.

Oh, without a doubt the _____________ is the best headphone.

So many current production headphones to choose from. Ultrasone Edition 9, balanced Sennheiser HD650, JVC HP-DX1000, Sony MDR-SA5000, Audio Technica ATH-W5000, Denon AH-D5000, AKG K701, Darth Beyers/Darth Denons, tomorrows new flavor-of-the-week. All do one thing or another a little better than the other. For me, many times "the best" is just what happens to be on my head at that moment.

Sorry, no easy answer for your question.

Count how many times this type of thread has been made, and then add that number to the end of the word "Quietcomfort;" the headphone you just named is the best ever created in the human world.

There is no objective, absolute best headphone. Period. Perhaps from a technical perspective, but not when it comes time to actually listen to the phone, because then people's subjective preferences come into play.
