I do not have a DAC. I am looking for something to drive my headphones that I can just use at home

Personally I would look into HE-400i, but I don't know if that would be bassy enough for what your wanting. If your wanting a thump a closed back can is going to be the way to go, but you will be feeling the bass versus hearing it if that makes sense. As for a dac are you wanting a dac/amp combo or aio dac/amp setup?

I second the 400i or the cheaper 400s for more fun sound, just remember to replace the latter's pads with focus or focus-a pads.
 
Otherwise at the $250-400 price range you can try the fidelio X2 (more refined than X1), HD600/650 (not sure about your amp setup) or K7xx.
 
You cannot go wrong with all the above.
