Dec 24, 2008 at 11:43 PM Post #16 of 52
In alphabetic order:
* 7zX -> 7-Zip frontend. Compressing/decompressing files
* Adium -> Multi-protocol instant messaging client
* Camino -> Web browser. Running Mozillas Gecko rendering engine, as Firefox and others.
* Colloquy -> IRC client
* Max -> Audio CD ripper and converter
* Meteorologist -> Weather program for the menu bar
* Monolingual -> Remove language resources from Mac OS X
* OpenOffice.org -> Office suite
* Seashore -> Image editor
* SimplyBurns -> CD/DVD ripper and burner.
* Smultron -> Text editor
* Transmission -> BitTorrent client
* VLC -> Audio/video playback client
* Xcode Tools - Apple's software development tool

Edit. Now with links and short descriptions.

The usual suspects (Firefox, Office, iSync)

FFview
VLC
Final Draft
Final Cut Pro
Coconut Battery
Camino (occasionally)
SoundSource
Currency Converter (widget)

And finally, above all things OSX...

QUICKSILVER. If I'm using my Mac, you can bet I'm using Quicksilver.

(Mac notebook users, in case you haven't tried this yet, hold ctrl then do the two finger trackpad scroll. Surprising!)

Sweet I got a free copy of 1Password (thanks macheist) it's a really cool program. I would even consider paying for it if I needed to.

I am a bit surprised as well.
But understand that for some really specialized tasks there may not be any free alternatives.

My only payware, except for Mac OS X itself, is QuickTime Pro.

I decided to purchase a couple applications today: Candybar, Little Snitch & Xslimmer. I had tried them all for quite a while and enjoyed them. the only one which I feel iffy on is Candybar. I am just not sure that it is worth $30.

As for Little Snitch, the functionality is fantastic. i had no idea how active my machine was, and what apps would try and make some strange connections. Xslimmer helped me recover some hard drive space, and I may just be imaging it, but certain apps seem a bit zippier after using Xlsimmer, and actively using Little Snitch.

In the future, can we all give a brief description of the app, rather than just list the app itself? I bought my first Mac about a week ago, and would find it more convenient to read a short synopsis of the app's function than to Google each one posted here.

Like this?

Little Snitch: Keep an eye on outgoing connections
Xslimmer: Remove extra languages and powerpc compatibility from apps

Edit: I think I did the same in the first post.

Yes, I guess we can...

On the fact I will go back and add short descriptions of the applications I listed.

Edit. More pleased now?
