If everything was ok this new cable would not exist:
With this cable (fitted with a male pin the connects to the earphone in a much tighter fasion) you're in for a trouble free experience. With the bundled cable you are bounded for hiccups sooner or later.
If the tonality it's not right, then nothing else really matters.
Depends on how long the stock has been sitting on the shelf. Older stock has the old cable. Newer stock has the new cable.
I got some warranty replacement UM Pro 50 from Westone and they came with the new cable. I got some warranty replacement W60 from the UK distributor, a few months later, and they came with the old cable.
Westone do finally seem to have fixed their cable issues, but it took far longer than it should have, and there is still old stock floating around.
I've been a Westone fan for years but I think they damaged their reputation badly with the launch of the UM Pro and W ranges. Great sound which gets overlooked due to less than great build.
Westone threads used to be popular on this forum but they rarely get revived now unless it is to discuss build quality.

I feel very lucky that I haven't experience any cable issues, looseness, or audio cutting out for my Um Pro 30, and I have it for about 2 years (?). Maybe it's because I don't use it that often or that I like never bring them out of the house.

I have also been a Westone fan for years, but I think they have simply lost their minds on pricing. $150 for a single BA and $300 for a dual BA is just no longer competitive in this market. Especially not when the stems will snap or the cables will fail in ~2 years with daily, but careful, use. If the prices were 50% of where they are now, they would again be very popular on head-fi!
Exactly...you got it. They will surely go out of business soon if their products are priced too high.
Luckily there are 850 other choices out there in each price bracket so Westone is not even a player out there any more. No one would pay the insane prices they charge for such rubbish, right?
We just gotta move on to one of the other 48 IEM makers out there.

I hope they come with a new model that is really studied, designed and implemented well. I am a great Westone Fan and they have had issues in the UM PRO series. Like you the latest warranty replacement for my UM Pro 50 had the new cable, and a MUCH better assembly quality.

I agree with you, BUT, I n the last 3 year of my craze with buying IEMs, I didnt arrive to a pair that has the comfort+isolation like Westone. There is something magical about the weight vs shape vs sound that is amazing. Shure has an amazing isolation but no where near westone in comfort.
For this I really hate to lose Westone as a player
I doubt this works with Westone without exposing the connector to air and oxidation, like all standard MMCX connectors they fit Shure and others perfectly, but westone and their extra point out connector can only use a special connector that comes with extra plastic to cover the ear piece connectors. Am I right for this one?

I spent some time on the phone with westone today chatting about history and products and the future direction of Westone. Will not divulge names but the person has been with westone for well over 10 years and thinks the transition to china for the w series and um series is seriously tarnishing the name of Westone. They hope to bring production back to Colorado, but its a long process that has not been approved yet nor sure if it will. They hope if they can it will fix the problems with the quality comtrol and when issues do arrise, a quicker fix can be implemented. I also learned about some new products in the works. If all does go well, westone universals will be great again. I still remember my first pair of Westone um1 and um2 about 11 or 12 years ago. Those and Shure were what opened the world of high end audio up for me. You never forget the first time you hear things you never have before in your music.
