O_O More about the W30 plz O_O
But the W40 soundstage is M A S S I V E L Y larger than the W30.
That's surely worth mentioning.

(EDIT:   That would be the UM Pro 30 I am referring to....W30 DOES have a large soundstage as well.  Sorry for the confusion)

any news from Westone if UM Pro 50 or W50 is actually ES5 in a universal form ?

would be really interested if so

From the above post: The UM Pro 50 features the most advanced drivers that we craft right now and are designed to be a great alternative to our ES5 customs

Seems like they leveraged on the technology of ES5 customs to build the UM Pro 50. Could be quite close to ES5? But can't ascertain till the official release and reviews are out.

Same, much prefer the housing of the UM Pro series. The UM Pro50 are not yet ready unfortunately. My interest in reviewing the new products goes in this order: UM Pro50 - W60 - W50

does anyone actually know specifically what are the tuning differences between the um and W lines? i know they are meant for musicians vs normal high end audio and stuff...but as in actual differences in frequency response, soundstage that kind of stuff. anyone?

Well musician's monitors typically have a smaller soundstage because they are designed to let the musician hear everything equally and clearly, as opposed to naturally. With the UM3X, the predecessor to the UM30, everything is presented very up-front, and despite having decent depth and dynamics, the soundstage is not very wide, meaning that instruments sound well-separated and natural individually, but the full sonic image is not very realistic because everything is presented at close to equal distance/volume, even if this is not the case in the original recording.

in case anyone is interested :)

a reply from westone's rep

Thanks for your email.  The UM Pro 50 is the universal option for the ES50.  They will be the same 5 driver design, just a different configuration for a universal application.  The W50 is designed to reproduce frequencies of pre recorded music, not live sound like the ES50/UM Pro 50. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks!
