Hi guys, new here, first post, but I'm looking for a new set of decent IEMs - Been using the Klipsch Image S4 for the past 2 years :D

I've narrowed my decision down to either a pair of these or the Fischer DBA-02 - I can afford to buy the DBA's new but the Senns I am looking at a pair on eBay -http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190471113935&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

The guy only had a few pictures at first and I asked him to post a few more. I see the red chip wire in the right piece and slightly in the left too. I really can't be bothered with the hassle of returning etc though, you guys know more than me so :)

Thanks alot

Hello all. I have just signed up to this forum after doing a bit of mushing around for reviews and prices on the Sennheiser IE8s. I decided to purchase a pair from ebay in the UK from a seller who has sold a bulk lot with 99% feedback from over 600 transactions but I know this is nothing to go by. I'm beginning to worry abit about these being fake already after comming across this thread and will post up some pictures when they arrive.

Looks like a great forum btw, plenty to go at. Will enjoy looking through it.

Managed to get mine cancelled off ebay & money returned. I'm not willing to risk so much money for a very realistic chance of getting fakes & I don't want to be checking over a product for hours to try and spot minute differences... I can't at the moment find anywhere in the uk selling them for a reasonable price that hasn't sold out so I've just ordered some Hippo VB to go on with.

Help! Could someone to tell if this is genuine?
I bought this one from ebay. The sound quality is worse than my MX500 and cx300. The build quality is also not good, there are a lot of imperfect cutting around the edges. Also the box's seal is adhered by a rubber band.

Please help me to decide whether this one is genuine. Thank you!

I paid $275 for it. I am burning it in all the day at home for now. I will see if it gets better after about 20 to 30 hours burning in.

Could you also check your IE8's cable and connector. Look at this:
http://img121.imageshack.us/i/iem4.jpg/
The fake one's edge has visible white lines with white plastic dots. This looks very cheap. If you can, could you post a photo about the real connector?

the picture you posted has the real one included
i don't understand what you mean
edit: oh i get what you mean, hmm that is weird on my ie8 there are no white imperfection on the dock. Sorry don't have camera ready
but looking at your pictures, the angled lines around the S looks thin, IE8 at the splitter looks like mine but the your jack has some minor imperfection
is there red chip inside the right side of the cable?

I can see the copper (looks red)  in both left on the top connector in both left and right cable. I don't know if that's the red chip/cable. The imperfection happens not only on the connector and cable, the cleaning rod also has white rough plastic dots. So I am very concern about that. I have some $5 cheap headphones and that imperfection happens on them a lot. But my Sennheiser CX300 and MX500's cable and connector are both very smooth.

The box's imprint is shallow, you can't see it ifyou don't touch.

I have some even more confusing news on these.  I received 5 pairs of Sennheiser IE8 's from Tradetang.com.  Purchase price was $121.00 US for all 5 pair plus free shipping.  I got them in 5 days.  Before receipt I bought a pair for $379.00US from a genuine retailer, online.  Once I received the pair.  I looked at the box very carefully....very, very carefully and could find nothing different.  I sent a $20.00 pair back to online retailer as real and compaired the real ones to the others out of the box....nothing different.  I had my 13 yr. old son test them using an ipod touch, an iphone and a laptop. my wife and myself also tried them.  They both sounded alike.  Both pairs had the little red wire and the lines were thin in the "s".  I got a full refund from the online retailer.  I did this for a reason (its for my job) I'm not going to get into details, but just wanted to share that the c'fits are out there and they are indistinguisable.  The site i bought from through tradetang is shut down, but there are 362 other resellers on there selling these. Stopping this is like using a thumbtack to plug a hole in the hoover dam.  I did the same thing with UGG boots last month and the genuine retailer tried to tell me the real ones were fake(until I showed her the video I made)!  Next month I am doing Ipads, as long as they ship.  Crazy World.

That's terrible. The fakes are really well-made. For sound quality, you can tell a difference. It is better than most $10 headsets but worse than the $30 ones. I have several high-end and low-end headsets from Sennheiser and Beyerdynamics. I know what is good and bad about sound. The appearance of the products are very very similar. If it is the first time for a buyer to get a high-end headset, it is very difficult to tell the difference.

One thing is that Sennheiser is a very strict company in German and they care about the quality of every pair. But the QA of the fake company is often very bad. So it is relatively easy to spot some minor imperfection from the products (You  have to search though the body of the product to spot them).

I have burned in for more than 20 hours but no improvement at all.
The bass is very unclear, it is just like you speak with your ears covered.
It is very easy to tell if you are listening piano or harp solo. The booming unnature bass sound makes you uncomfortable.
The soundstage? Not at all. It is just like a $10 earbud. Well the only phone I have that has enough soundstage is my DT880.
High freq is better than a $10 one.
Med freq is also not very clear, maybe the bass has mixed in.

This is what I can tell about this IE8 with 20+ hours burning.

I went to an authorized dealer and checkout out an IE7 and find out the build quality is very good, the cable is very smooth, no white plastic leftovers. The imprint is visible.
So I returned this IE8.

I sent an email to the Senn. folks, this is their reply
I think they should go after these fakes, just like the two I have.
If this was my first high end phones I would never go back to the Sennheiser product nor would I beleive any forum post.

Hi, I purchased these from ebay a few days ago. They were advertised as "barely used." They came without the original box but with the carry case (Which I'l get onto shortly), tips, clip, earclip thingies and the salt packet you get to put in the case with them. I thought they may be fake due to the fact they came with no box but thought I'd give them a try, as I have lost boxes in the past and hoped this guy had done so too. I see no evidence of the red chip that people say you should see where the cable plugs in to the right earpiece (some say left too). I saw some other guy saying you should see a green chip board and 4 solder points clearly where the cable splits from single to y formation, which I do see.

They sound pretty good from a couple of hours listening to various music, sounding nice on a few electronic songs. I have been using cheap JVC earbuds the last couple of months after losing the UE220's I bought to last me while I saved up for something nice after my Denons broke, so even fake IE8's might sound good to me at the moment?

I've seen reviews saying they have very powerful bass, and mine were set at the highest setting when I got them out of the case, but its not massively strong. I'm not a basshead, but I've come from Denon C751's and 710's in the past, which are considered quite heavy in the bass department from what I can gather.

A shot of the right earpiece, no "red chip" can be seen (by me at least)

Now the carry case, every one I've seen has been brushed alluminium, but mine has a funny texture? As far as I'm concerned this is either a massie give away they're fake, or they just made some cases like this I didn't know about. Anyone know any more? The texture is smooth, and theres a film of plasticy stuff thats hard to remove over the metal.

A closer look at the case and logo, apologies for the poor pic

Everything I received is below

Overview of splitter, jack and earpiece (the right earphone is the one you can see more of (can anyone see the red chip?)

In this pic, the right earphone is on top. Is it me or are the bass adjust screws quite recessed?

Finally, the back of the splitter, where the green board and four solder points can be clearly seen.

Apologies for the pictures again, no access to a proper camera at the moment. Can anyone tell me what they thin of these then, I'm fairly inclined to think fakes, but I might just be paranoid. Hear the red chip is very important though and I can't see one, and the case is suspicious.

Thanks, I await you replies. Joe.
