Gave them a test drive and, they sound great out of the box. Spent the first few minutes doing trial / error fitting of the different ear-fit rings. Found the ones, tested with some various music styles. Very happy.

Many people have commented that the treble / highs are not crisp. I really like how they sound. Until burn-in, will leave the bass tuning potentiometer at minimal.

Thank you,
Monnie

Wait a minute.

Made in China AND sounds great out the box?!?!

I'm thinkin' you've got yourself a pair of fakes there.

A "real" Senn should be made in Germany AND initially sound like M-U-D.

Hope you're still able to return them.

just kidding.

I was just looking through ebay auctions and found this... hilarity ensues.

Sennheiser IE8 In-Ear Monitor Earphones inbox wholesale - eBay (item 280446449287 end time Feb-02-10 09:21:16 PST)

Q: Hi Are the IE8 new? Are they original or copies? Regards

A: HI,I cann't say this is original or the copy product.Because this product is make by Sennheiser ODM factory in China, but not the same as commercial product,,have the same elementary diagram, starting material and package.Close your eyes make a test can't distinguish which one is commercial product. When you don't care about this only want to a high quality and the lower price product as the same time, this's the best chioce.

Well, I just received my ie8s from eBay. I won a low bid auction and almost immediately regretted it after seeing SolidVictory's posts. Before paying, I contacted the seller, sent him the post to this thread and asked a number of questions - but never received a satisfactory response. All I asked for was the ability to return the phones if they were fake. I waited for a proper response, and instead, he lodged a "unpaid item" case against me. I contacted eBay and PayPal, and once I felt I had adequate backup, I went ahead and paid (yeah, that's the part I can't believe, either).
Long story short - I waited until today when the package arrived and opened it up, absolutely expecting to find fakes. But they absolutely check out. Woohoo! I think I got a STEAL at $150! (Boy, I am gonna have to suck up to that seller, though). Either they were authentic the entire time, or my pestering the seller actually forced them to go out and GET real ones to send me.
Can't wait to try them and and compare them to my W3s (after the mandatory burn-in, of course).
Great thread - much appreciated!

Thought you was crazy or something... and the spelling in that listing is atrocious, it looks like it was written by a 6 year old! But that doesn't necessarly mean fake. Or does it... ?
