Those pics are too small for one and then you don't have any pics of the actual earphones. I think the outer box should not be deciding factor of whether the IE8s are real or fake. IE8s have been around for a while now and there could have been alterations in the print design/color of the box. What if Sennheiser decides to launch a silver outer box this coming year? You know what I mean?

SolidVictory: I appreciate what you have done in this thread. There are some variables that need to be considered in finding faults with the counterfeit product. For instance, I think the outer box could have been printed differently. The different placements of barcode and labeling on authentic IE8 boxes are indications of a manufacturing change so be wary of the fact the color of the inner flap (the guy with the skin-tone) may also vary from box to box. There is also a possibility that the fake IE8s are placed in "real" outer boxes, just to make the matter more difficult. If counterfeit mfrs. decide to put red wires in the earpieces, it is VERY hard to differentiate between a fake and a real one apart from listening and auditioning to them of course.

Yes, I understand all of these variables and agree that it's very difficult to keep up with changes both from the manufacturer and the counterfeiters. Also, the point about counterfeiters deciding to put red wires in the earpieces--this is very true and I mentioned this earlier in the thread. It's very possible that they are checking out this very thread and can change their fakes to look more like genuine IE8s. I wouldn't take the risk of purchasing IE8s from anything other than an authorized dealer at this point. I also think purchasing them from a physical authorized store is better than purchasing them online.

I would say fakes!
There is no sign of "red chip" inside the cable plug, and the Sennheiser logo seems to quite a bit thicker than on the original ie8.
My 2 cents.

I'm waiting for others replies. It's not that I don't trust you, but I prefer to be sure not to let this opportunity go away.

They look fake, and look exactly like the ones I sent back previously. The yellow strip at the bottom of the box is too thin, and also the Senn logo on the headphones is incorrect.

Also, the indicator for the "L" is straight and not slightly angled.

Hi, I opened a paypal dispute 2 days ago and I included a link to this thread but the seller has yet to contact me... I just reported the item on eBay as well. Hopefully the seller hasn't done a runner!

I shall try and contact Sennheiser about this issue.

Thanks a lot.

Now do you know where I could find a dealer who sells real ones and ship to Switzerland with a decent price??

The seller of my fake IE8's just refused my demand for the full £119.99 refund.

Here is the paypal dispute so far. I'm Lewis btw.

From Buyer - Lewis

26/12/2009 21:30 GMT

I bought from you a pair of Sennheiser IE8's on Dec 12 and upon first inspection, the packaging seemed genuine. However, after only unboxing the IE8's yesterday as a christmas present, they had awful sound quality and then after visiting this thread http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/w...cluded-457420/ I have determined the IE8's you sold me are fake. In the listing you listed them as '100% Genuine', therefore I would like a full refund.

robin mccartney refused Lewis's request for a £119.99 GBP refund.

From Seller - robin mccartney

of course we can offer a refund but these are from the offcial distributor. there is a lot of paranoid threads especailly to do with ebay.

From Buyer - Lewis

What do you mean these are from the official distributor? They can't be straight from Sennheiser themselves because these are fake! I can't get a refund from Sennheiser for a fake pair of earphones. This is your duty.

Fortunately the seller agree to refund my money after I send back the fake IE8, and dispute him through paypall, good luck....

Thank you for the reply. My dispute through PayPal is going relatively well actually. They said to send them back to the seller and provide them with a tracking number and they would then refund. I just sent them off an hour ago so we'll see. It's frustrating Sennheiser won't point out what to look for since there seems to be so much confusion over what are really signs of fakes.

To anyone that's interested my fakes came from ebay seller miko_n_co, a guy named Chanel Du, email mikoco_goods@yahoo.com.

Hopefully my refund will come soon and I can order a set from razordogdeals.

Capital ,, I clicked on the eBay Seller's Id & on his Feedback page It states "Not a Registered User" Plus it seems he's never sold Sennheiser products except to You.That's 2 givaways to "Beware" of always.I advise ALWAYS to look @ a Seller's feedback to see what he "normally" sells & if You spot an item or items (that's usually) are "Hot Seller's" on eBay or he hasn't sold BUT is Normally a Buyer, then it most times means FAKES or a scammer has stolen someone's eBay Identity. And Always pay by PayPal(usually You'll get Your Money back).

Many thanks for OP for useful information.

Have authentic pair from amazon direct in hand, and would still having trouble distinguishing from photo's. DAMN they are good counterfeits!

Was wondering, does the bass port work?

Also , i see the "red wiring " present in the stress-relief and the L-plug in the OG's. Are these also on the fakes as well?

Yes, but in my experience, it works better after burn in (when the mid bass is tamed) and also depends on the fit/songs. But yes, it does work!
