Does anyone know anything about these? Can't find much information on their sound or how/if they differ from the current version.

If I am not mistaken, new ones don't have the RS-2 button in the center. I am not sure if it makes any sonical difference though.

Yeah in the second pic you can clearly see the cable reflection on the wood. Is that normal?

Think it may just be the flash? And from looking at pictures..to me the older RS series Grado's do seem to be a bit glossier.

I purchased these from Pokato. I found the original thread and it seems the previous owner put a light coat of Varathane on them. I think thats right. And my pictures suck.

So, we've concluded that they are glossy...Would the Varathane have an affect on sound? That's all I'm concerned about.

I can't imagine it would. I'd just be concerned that it's mod and it doesn't have the original RS-2 drivers in there. Looks really nice, though.

maybe the varathane would have an effect.... since its glossy, and thicker, and harder, it would bounce the sound off of them, thus causing an "echo" sound.. while the regular rs2 do not have so much wood finish added, so that sound can absorb....

Got an email back from Grado saying the Varathane should not have any effect on the sound. Not sure how/why it would..be was worth asking.
